Amtrak has kicked off a nationwide winter flash sale, offering travelers up to 40 percent off regularly priced fares to hundreds of destinations across the United States.

The flash sale has limited availability and applies to trips departing Monday through Thursday, and Saturdays. Travelers interested in taking advantage of the sale have until November 14 to book their tickets, Amtrak said.

Tickets booked during the sale are valid for travel dates throughout winter, for trips departing between December 2, 2024, and March 15, 2025, though blackout dates will apply around peak holiday times—namely December 24, 2024, December 26, 2024, January 1, 2025, January 17 through January 21, 2025, and February 17, 2025.

Discounts are available on both Coach Class and Business Class seats on Amtrak's Acela service during the company's "National Winter Travel Flash Sale."

Newsweek reached out to Amtrak via email on Friday for comment.

Coach Class riders enjoy "comfortable, reclining seats with legroom to stretch out, no middle seats, large windows that put the season's best scenery on display while creating a smaller carbon footprint," according to Amtrak.

Acela Business Class provides "an upgraded experience with reserved seating, free Wi-Fi, expanded tray tables and the new Cafe Acela menu with a variety of sustainably sourced, local and health-focused options."

The limited time promotion is valid for travel on all trains except the Auto Train (53), Borealis, Carolinian, Lincoln Service, Hiawatha, Illini/Saluki, Illinois Zephyr/Carl Sandburg, Keystone (PHL-HAR), Missouri River Runner, Pacific Surfliner, Piedmont and Winter Park Express.

The offer aims to make rail travel more accessible and affordable during the colder months, appealing to both holiday travelers and those looking for a scenic winter getaway. It can be combined with Amtrak's everyday discounts.

The sale is live on Amtrak's website. To take advantage of the savings, travelers will need to visit Amtrak.com/wintersale.

"Discounts offered during the National Winter Travel Flash Sale provide guests the opportunity to take convenient, comfortable and more sustainable trips between the biggest cities in the country — New York City, Washington, DC, Philadelphia and Boston — aboard the Acela or experience some of the country's most spectacular landscapes on other trains to Chicago, Los Angeles or Dallas," Amtrak Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer Eliot Hamlisch said in a statement.

"Whether you're joining us for the first time or as an Amtrak Guest Rewards member, our aim is to 'Retrain Travel,' providing a better way to reach winter destinations — away from traffic, tolls and tedious lines — where the journey is part of the getaway."

Hamlisch has served in this role since September 2023 and is responsible for various departments overseeing the Northeast Corridor, State Supported and Long Distance service lines. The flash sale comes as part of Amtrak's efforts to boost ridership by making train travel an attractive alternative to driving or flying during the busy winter months.
