Amy Robach has revealed she started to cry and told T.J. Holmes she loved him as the pair ran the New York City marathon together.
The stars—who were co-anchors on Good Morning America 3 before becoming a couple in 2022—tackled the 26.2-mile run together at the weekend. They completed the race and crossed the finish line, just three weeks after they were unable to finish the Chicago marathon as Holmes had some issues with his Achilles tendon.
Opening up on the couple's Amy & T.J podcast, Robach revealed how during the race she started reflecting on how far she and Holmes had come—both in terms of running and in life—and ended up emotional.
"I felt this amazing wave of emotion come over me and I started to cry," she said. "Tears of joy."
She told Holmes: "I remember looking over at you and thinking where we were three weeks ago and just all the struggles that we have been through, not just in this training and this racing thing that we do together, but just in life. And all of the struggles of the last two years kind of came over me and I looked at you and I'm sure you remember, I just said, 'I love you.'
"I felt so honored that the person who I've been through all of this with was right by my side doing something that's really hard and that we were doing it together."
"I could get emotional now thinking about it," she said. "When you go and run a race like this I think no matter how many times you do it you know how hard it is and how hard you have worked for it. To have someone who is there with you."
Robach, 51, said the pair met a friend in Chicago who noted how lucky they were that they got to share their love of running and each had someone to do it with.
She went on: "Because it is hard sometimes to get motivated. It is hard to say, I can do this. But when you have got that person next to you through life and on the running route it makes a difference. It does for me.
"And I just was so grateful for you and just kind of reflecting on how far we had come."
Robach and Holmes, 47, exited Good Morning America 3 in 2022 after it emerged that they had formed a romantic relationship, and they went on to launch their Amy & T.J. podcast.
