Amy Schumer has revealed she quickly turned away from using Ozempic to lose weight after suffering vomit fuelled side-effects.
The comedian and actress, 43, has admitted using the drug - which is designed specifically to treat type 2 diabetes - to help her lose weight. While Ozempic contains semaglutide, which mimics the hormone that regulates appetite and creates the feeling of fullness, it is not designed to be used for weight loss.
But Amy - and a string of other Hollywood stars - have used the drug for its inadvertent weight-loss properties. However, the Trainwreck star has revealed she was left shaking, shrivelling and throwing up when she used the drug due to a reaction she suffered thanks to her genetics.
The star explained that she was left feeling like she was suffering effects similar to morning sickness from her days of pregnancy as the drug allegedly reacted to a gene linked to morning sickness. The mum-of-one, who shares five-year-old son Gene with her husband Chris Fischer, 44, has also said the weight loss she did witness was wasted on the fact she was too ill to go anywhere.

So, I tried Ozempic almost three years ago and I was like, bedridden. I was like, vomiting — and then you have no energy.
"But other people take it and they’re all good. God bless them.” The Kinda Pregnant actress went on to mock the expected results of the drug - while reiterating the fact that she was in such a bad state due to her reaction that she could barely do anything.
She said: “You’re like, ‘Wait a minute. Can we slow down?’ The side effects are you have a better personality. I tried it and I was vomiting and I’m in bed and my son’s like, ‘Can you play tag?’ I’m like, ‘I can’t.’ I was shriveling.”
She did confirm, however, she “lost 30 pounds so quick” and “looked great” - but added: “I couldn’t lift my head off the pillow, so what’s the point?” The GDF15 gene, which stands for growth/differentiation factor 15, has been linked to an increased likelihood of obesity as well as a cause of morning sickness in pregnant women.
Amy has previously shared her thoughts on stars using drugs to change their bodyweight. Appearing on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen back in June 2023, the stand-up star accused fellow celebrities who of “lying” about taking once-weekly antidiabetic injections for weight loss.
She joked: “Everyone’s like: ‘Smaller portions. Shut the f*** up. You’re on Ozempic, or one of those things.” She added: "Just stop. Just be real with the people.”
