‘90 Day Fiance’ Star Josh Relocated to China to Live With Lily

In a teaser clip for the season 6 premiere on July 1, 2024, Josh explained that he recently quit his job in the United States so that he could move to China.

“I am on a spousal visa,” he explained in a confessional. “After five years, I can request a 10-year resident visa. But until I have that, I am not allowed to legally work.”

While speaking to a friend about being unable to work while lounging in a hot tub, Josh explained that Lily was not bothered about him not being able to financially provide for their family. “It bothers me,” he admitted. “I’ve always worked and I want to feel like I can contribute and not be a deadbeat.”

He then pointed out that it’s more common for men to work in China than for women to be the breadwinners. “So she’ll get judged or they’ll judge me,” Josh told his friend.

“It’s probably very odd that, you know, this white guy coming to China, speaking English and doesn’t work while the wife does,” he continued in a confessional. “And I’m going to need to rely on Lily a hundred percent to pay for things for language translation. You know, she’s gonna be the only person I have, so it’s not an easy feeling.”

Not only was Josh concerned about not being able to work, but he also wondered why Lily would want to be with him. “I’m not George Clooney and I am gonna wonder,” he said. “Why does a woman like Lily want to be with a man like me and support me financially? And there is that fear that I’m gonna wake up one day and Lily’s gonna say, ‘I don’t want to be with you.’”

90 Day Fiance’s Josh Struggled With Not Financially Contributing to their Household

After a few days in China, Josh grew uneasy with his wife being the breadwinner of their home and realized the costs of their second wedding ceremony were slowly piling up.

The pair also realized they seemingly had different motivations for wanting to host another ceremony. The U.S. native explained that their first wedding was just the two of them, and Lily wanted her family to be part of the celebration. In contrast, Lily stated that it was Josh who wished to experience a traditional Chinese ceremony.

Josh later met Lily’s sister, who was concerned about him not being able to provide for her sibling. Though she liked Josh, she was concerned about the possibility of him not being able to work and asked what he would do if he couldn’t provide for Lily.

90 Day Fiance’s Josh Told Lily to Cancel Their Wedding

Less than two hours before their wedding ceremony was slated to begin, Josh told Lily to cancel the nuptials. “Today’s the day of our wedding, but I really don’t know if this is going to happen,” Josh admitted in a confessional during the September 8, 2024, episode.

Their guests were scheduled to arrive at the venue within two hours before Josh announced that he was having second thoughts.

“I’m so sad. I’m angry,” Lily said in a confessional before the clip cut to her saying she felt “so bad” after Josh made the comment.

The drama only continued when the pair realized they had a final balance to pay off once they arrived at the venue. The balance needed to be paid in full to move forward with the wedding, and while Josh was prepared to use a credit card, he was uncertain if it would be approved since he was outside the United States.

“If this card does not go through, just because of traveling out of the country, do you have a card that will work?” Josh asked his future wife, who said she didn’t. “I just hate to see this all fall apart”

Lily was nervous that she would have to cancel the wedding, adding, “I will definitely feel very disappointed and down. I will feel very embarrassed and unable to face my family and friends.”

Unfortunately, Josh’s cards didn’t work in China, but Lily was able to obtain a last-minute loan to pay off their wedding.
