Hugh Jackman and Sutton Foster are looking loved up and happier than ever after a rough start to their romance amid cheating rumors.
Jackman and Foster started out as friends after meeting in theater circles back in 2008. In 2021, they began working together on the Broadway revival of The Music Man. At the time, Jackman was still married to Deborra-Lee Furness and Foster was married to Ted Griffin.
Foster and Jackman first went public with their romance in January 2025. However, reports of their romance date back to December 2023, just a three months after Jackman and Furness announced they were divorcing after nearly three decades together. When Foster filed for divorce from her husband, Ted Griffin, the following October that affair allegations reached an all-time high.

However, there are still many unanswered questions about Foster and Jackman’s relationship — When did it begin? Did Jackman cheat on his wife? Who knew about the alleged affair? We’re unpacking all of that below.
When Did Hugh Jackman & Sutton Foster Start Dating?
Jackman and Foster’s relationship allegedly began as an affair in 2022 while they were appearing in The Music Man on Broadway.
Per a bombshell November 2024 report in Us Weekly, Jackman and Foster’s alleged affair ultimately caused his divorce from Furness. “Deborra-Lee was blindsided when she found out about the affair through the run of the show,” one source alleged. “I think many people were shocked [Jackman] could do this to her,” another insider claimed.
After Furness and Jackman announced their split in September 2023, Jackman and Foster allegedly continued dating in private. Per Us Weekly, Jackman has been seen coming and going from Foster’s NYC apartment. “They don’t live together because of their kids,” a source claimed. “But Sutton has told people on Broadway about the relationship. Everyone [there] has known about this for a long time.”

On Nov. 16, sources followed up with Us Weekly, saying the couple are enjoying a “lighthearted” and “joyful” relationship and spend their time going to New York restaurants, taking walks through Central Park and supporting one another’s careers.

Sometime in October, rehearsal begins for the Broadway revival of The Music Man which Foster and Jackman led. On Nov. 8, 2021, Foster uploaded a video of them revealing they were three weeks into rehearsals.
“When we rehearse, I don’t want to be this close if that’s ok,” Jackman jokingly said in the video as they stood side by side speaking to the camera. “Week three, chemistry,” he added.

On December 20, 2021, Foster and Jackman begin previews for The Music Man on Broadway.

March 19, 2022: Jackman Sings ‘Happy Birthday’ To Foster

In March 2022, Hugh went above and beyond for his pal Foster and made The Music Man audience sing to her for her birthday. She posted about the moment on her Instagram, saying, “Hugh Jackman is an evil, horrible, WONDERFUL human. He had the entire audience sing to me last night.”

Over the next few months, Foster and Jackman go to numerous events together, attending charity events and the 2022 Tony Awards together.
“Sutton is literally the best in the world,” Jackman gushed about Foster while the two appeared on Late Night With Seth Meyers in May 2022. “She’s incredible.”
According to an October 2024 report in the Daily Mail, Jackman’s wife grew suspicious of her husband’s relationship with Foster when their work together began.
“Deborra-Lee had her suspicions when Hugh started working with Sutton,” a source alleged. “Their relationship is not a secret to her.”

The Music Man closes on Broadway in January 2023, marking the last public sighting of Jackman and Foster together.
Jackman continues to appear publicly with Furness for several more months, wishing her a happy 27th wedding anniversary in April and attending the Met Gala together in May.
In Oct. 2024, sources told Us Weekly that Jackman and Foster’s affair was already underway at this point. “It was apparently Broadway’s worst-kept secret, and Deborra-lee was the last to know,” the source alleged. “He didn’t own up to it.”

On Sept. 15, Jackman and Furness announced they were separating after 27 years of marriage via a statement to People.
“We have been blessed to share almost 3 decades together as husband and wife in a wonderful, loving marriage,” they wrote. “We greatly appreciate your understanding in respecting our privacy as our family navigates this transition in all of our lives.”

Per court documents obtained by People, Foster filed for divorce from husband of 10 years Ted Griffin in New York City on Oct. 22, thus ramping up affair allegations. The couple share one daughter.
On Oct. 24, a Page Six source claims Foster and Jackman “are 100 percent together and are in love and want to spend the rest of their lives together.”
“They are still together,” a source adds. “They go out of their way to hide it, but it’s common knowledge.”

October 26, 2024: Furness Appears To Confirmed Affair Rumors

On Oct. 26, gossip blogger Tasha Lustig claimed in an Instagram post that Jackman “blindsided” Furness by “running off with the mistress.”
One of Furness’ pals Amanda de Cadenet commented, “You are on point with this one. My beloved friend Deb is about to have her glow up any moment fyi!”
Furness allegedly liked the post from a private account, more or less confirming this is the story.

November 12, 2024: Us Weekly Confirms Jackman & Foster’s Affair

On November 12, 2024, Us Weekly dropped a bombshell report claiming their alleged romance is “the reason” he filed for divorce from Furness.
“Sutton and Hugh’s relationship is the reason Hugh and Deb got divorced,” the insider confirmed. “A lot of people on Broadway knew, and we kept it quiet because both of them are so nice and great people. Everyone respected their privacy. But there was an affair and overlap. They are really happy now.”

November – December 2024: Jackman & Foster Are Secretly Together

According to an insider who spilled the beans to Star via OK Magazine in late Nov 2024, Jackman and Foster have been keeping their romance on the down low to avoid humiliating Furness.
“They’ve been hiding their relationship from the outside world for so long, sneaking around, living apart, but there will come a time when they’ll want to come out as a couple,” an inside source claimed to the outlet. “Soon, they may start testing the waters.”

Jackman stepped out in Los Angeles to support Foster during the second last performance of her play Once Upon a Mattress, held at the Ahmanson Theatre.
In photos obtained by the gossip blog DeuxMoi, Jackman sat alongside Carol Burnett who originated Foster’s role back in 1959. The appearance came shortly after it was reported that Jackman would be skipping the Golden Globes on Jan. 5, the same day as the final performance of Foster’s play.

Jan 7, 2025: Jackman & Foster Are Photographed Together for the First Time Since Affair Rumors

On Jan 7, People shared photos of Jackman and Foster stepping out for dinner in Los Angeles the night before. The photos mark the first time Jackman and Foster were seen together since their Broadway show ended.
In the following weeks, the pair ramp up their PDA. On Jan 16, People shared additional photos of the couple walking hand-in-hand taken on Jan 7, the morning after their date night.
On Jan 15, they were photographed kissing inside a car at an In-N-Out restaurant.

That’s right, in Feb 2025, insiders claim that Hugh Jackman and Sutton Foster are looking to already move in together, despite both in divorce proceedings with their ex-spouses. Insiders alleged to Closer Weekly, “Moving in together is a huge step, but this appears to be the real deal. They’re totally in love.”
But in late Feb, it was confirmed that they are not living together. “They’re not officially living together but spending a lot of time together,” a source told Us Weekly, noting that the pair are “relieved and happy” to be out of hiding.
