Artem Chigvintsev is back on Instagram and shared smiling snaps with his four-year-old son Matteo. The post is the first from the Dancing with the Stars pro since his split from ex-wife Nikki Garcia. And of course, all of the chaos that came with it.
Looks like the dancing veteran is trying to move forward with this life since the divorce was finalized in November. It’s an understatement to say the past several months have been a trying time for him and Nikki.
Now it seems like it may finally be time for them to come out the other side.
Artem Chigvintsev’s focusing on what matters
In the Instagram post, Artem shared a quick slideshow reel of black and white photos with Matteo. The father and son are lying down and laughing together with mouths wide open. In the last shot, Matteo is hugging his dad and squishing their faces together.
It’s nice to see the pair having a good time together. It hasn’t been an easy past few months for the whole family. In August, shortly after Artem and Nikki celebrated their second wedding anniversary, the dancer was arrested on a felony domestic violence charge. The charges were dropped in September after a thorough investigation.
The couple then announced they were filing for divorce. And the custody battle began. Nikki filed for sole custody while Artem requested joint custody. Things got heated and both parties even filed restraining orders against each other, which have since been dropped. It got pretty ugly.
However, despite rising tensions, the former couple always asserted that what mattered most was Matteo. And they proved it when they settled their divorce amicably and out of court last November. They let it all go to move on and co-parent their son.
During the height of the scandal, Artem and Nikki stayed away from social media. Nikki has since been on her podcast and talked about how difficult it has been to let go of the life she envisioned she wanted. But she is moving on.
And it looks like Artem is doing the same. Fans added comments to his sweet new post, talking about how happy they were that the father and son were together and that their bond was really special.
