Olivia Hussey, Romeo and Juliet star, dies aged 73

Olivia Hussey, star of the 1968 film Romeo and Juliet, has died aged 73.

Her death was announced in an Instagram post from her official account.

It read: "It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Olivia Hussey Eisley, who went peacefully at home surrounded by her loved ones on December 27th.

"Olivia was a remarkable person whose warmth, wisdom, and pure kindness touched the lives of all who knew her.

"Olivia lived a life full of passion, love, and dedication to the arts, spirituality, and kindness towards animals.

"As we grieve this immense loss, we also celebrate Olivia's enduring impact on our lives and the industry. We thank you for your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time and ask for privacy as we mourn the loss of a truly special soul."

The British-Argentine actress was born on April 17th, 1951 and was famed for her role in Romeo and Juliet, taking it on at only 15 years old, opposite co-star Leonard Whiting.

The role earned her a David di Donatello award and a Golden Globe, with the film nominated for Best Picture and three other Academy Awards.

She also starred in other iconic films such as Black Christmas, Death on the Nile, Jesus of Nazareth, Psycho IV: The Beginning, and Stephen King's It.

More recently, she dabbled in voice work in Star Wars video games, such as Star Wars: Rogue Squadron, Star Wars: Force Commander, and Star Wars: The Old Republic.

Hussey is survived by her husband of 35 years, David Glen Eisley, her children Alex, Max, and India, and her grandson Greyson, creating, "a legacy of love that will forever be cherished in our hearts.

She was also previously married to Dean Paul Martin, the son of actor-singer Dean Martin, from 1971 until their divorce in 1978, and Akira Fuse from 1980 until their divorce in 1989.
