Baby names making a comeback in 2025 as expert lists 13 growing in popularity

Naming a newborn can feel like a big decision, but parents are turning to one common theme for their babies.

Choosing a baby name is a meaningful process for parents, many of whom wish to opt for something different than their peers.

Popular names come and go as the years go by, but one trend that experts predict to be big in 2025 is floral-themed monikers for girls and boys.

New research from Eflorist found that names such as Heather, Rosemary and Hazel could be making a comeback this year.

To uncover their findings, experts analysed historical ONS data on new baby names dating back to 1904 and compared the average growth from the 20th century to the 21st, allowing them to find the floral monikers growing in popularity.

According to the research, Heather could be the standout moniker for baby girls, seeing a 617% growth in popularity since the 20th century. The name Heather is of British origin and means ‘evergreen flowering plant’.

For baby boys, the research has identified that the name William could be the most popular floral-inspired boy’s name for 2025, with a 483% increase in popularity since the millennium.

While William might not be an overtly floral baby name, the ‘sweet william’ is a pink fringed petal flower synonymous with British summer. It’s also considered a ‘flower of the gods’.

The resurgence of this known royal name is perhaps unsurprising given Prince William’s growing role within the royal family in recent years.

David Denyer, flower expert at Eflorist, comments on the name predictions: "From looking into historical trends, we can see a clear connection with parents being increasingly drawn to names that evoke a sense of beauty and individuality.

“Each name carries its own unique story, and we anticipate these floral-inspired names to blossom not only in popularity, but also in the hearts of new parents who want a meaningful name for their little ones.
