When it comes to oven cleaning, methods like vinegar, baking soda, and aluminium foil are widely used - although they may not be as effective as expected.

That’s why Liam Spencer from Northallerton Glass has introduced a straightforward yet highly effective technique for removing tough grease and grime from glass oven doors.

Priced at just 30p each and already found in many homes that have a dishwasher, dishwasher tablets offer a practical solution for homeowners.

With a staggering 5,100 percent surge in Google searches for "oven and grill Cleaners" from early November until the festive period, it’s clear many homeowners are keen to get their ovens sparkling.

Popular cleaning methods include using bicarbonate of soda, white vinegar, or even aluminium foil, but Liam pointed out that these alternatives aren’t as effective as dishwasher tablets.

He explained: “Sprinkling bicarbonate of soda and warm water on the glass and then scrubbing the door with a rolled-up ball of aluminium foil is not likely to remove stubborn, baked-on stains."

Liam also debunks the popular myth around the reaction caused after mixing bicarbonate of soda and white vinegar.

"These two ingredients will neutralise each other and instead create what is essentially salty sparkling water," he said.

“People mistakenly assume the fizzing reaction 'lifts' away dirt, but this is not true."

For a more efficient clean, Liam recommends the dishwasher tablet method. Here's how it works:

First, dip the tablet into warm water and gently rub it over the glass oven door. Continue until the tablet no longer catches on any stains. Then, wipe away any residue with warm water and kitchen roll.

While the tablet may start to break down during the cleaning process, Liam assures that this will not interfere with its effectiveness.

"You should be wearing gloves while handling the tablet," he advised, which “work effectively because they contain concentrated dishwashing detergent designed to cut through grease.”

The expert added: “Their abrasive texture helps remove stubborn stains without scratching the glass."

However, Liam stresses the importance of using pressed powder dishwasher tablets for this task, as opposed to gel pods.

"Gel pods are not suitable for cleaning glass oven doors," the expert cautioned.
