Jules Hudson issued an emotional update in an Instagram post shared on Remembrance day.
Whilst the archeologist and presenter is best known for his appearances on BBC rural shows such as Escape to the Country and Countryfile, many aren't aware of his past in the armed forces.
Jules originally joined the Army Reserve before briefly serving with the NATO Battlegroup in Estonia over the winter of 2018.
As people around the UK remembered fallen British soldiers who died in the line of duty, Jules shared some emotional thoughts of his own, revealing he is now a member of the Royal Naval Reserve.
"Ever since I was a kid, the story of the royal navy and the men and women who served in its ships through the ages has long since captured my imagination," Jules said from Portsmouth Dockyard.
He went on to share how his grandfather served as a sailor during the First World War, while his mother's uncle sadly lost his life at sea in 1917.

He continued: "No other organisation or group of people has so shaped the story of our nation. And here at Portsmouth's historic dockyard home of the royal navy, you get a taste of that sense of history."
Jules went on: "Every time I come here, I see and learn something new. It's like visiting an old friend. But as we remember those who have served, I think of my grandfather and others.
"I am now proud to be a part of that service, as a member of the royal navy reserve."
He penned in the caption: "Well folks, as we pay our respects on Remembrance Day, we can look back upon a momentous year of military commemorations, not least the 80th Anniversary of the D-Day landings and the battle for Arnhem.
"But today we can also reflect on all those who have served our nation through the ages and the great many who gave their today for our tomorrow."

The BBC star added: "Having originally joined the Army Reserve, I’ve finally followed family tradition and heeded the call of the sea, to now be a proud member of the Royal Navy Reserve. This is my story; this is why I remember. ‘We will remember them’."
Jules received an influx of supportive messages from his followers, who thanked him for his service.
One wrote: "Thank you JUles for your service and commitment, and for this post," as a second agreed: "I love the way you expressed their sacrifice. Truly gets the message across. Thank you."
