The son of TV legend Terry Wogan has landed himself a job on Virgin Radio UK - and by his own admission, has claimed he is the "world's oldest nepo baby."

Mark Wogan, 51, made the quip when speaking about his new role. He said: "I'm excited to once again embrace my status as the world's oldest nepo baby. It's great to have the Wogan name back on the radio and I'm delighted to be on the air with Virgin Radio UK."

The term is used to describe children of celebrities who land roles on the back of their parent's status. And while many attempt to break through into the world of showbiz, whether it be music or acting, they tend to do so at an earlier age than Mark, who at 51, is perhaps older than most.

The late star's son is the owner of the popular eatery Homeslice Pizza and has hosted the Spooning With Mark Wogan podcast. The digital show sees him having dinner with celebrity guests at two of London's high end locations including The Groucho Club in London's Soho and The Mount Street Restaurant in Mayfair.

Speaking about securing Mark for the radio show, Stuart Davies, who is the content manager of Virgin Radio UK said: "Mark has many stories to tell and I'm sure our listeners will enjoy his wit, style and that suave voice inherited from his dad."

Sir Terry Wogan passed away in 2016 was not only a television legend but was a listeners favourite on the radio during his stint on the BBC. During his time on BBC Radio 2 between 1993 and 2009, he garnered eight million listeners. Last month, Mark confirmed the heart-breaking passing of Sir Terry's wife Lady Helen. Sharing a black and white image of his parents, he captioned the post saying: "Lady Helen Wogan - 1936-2024." Lady Helen was married to Sir Terry, for more than 50 years before he sadly died in 2016, following a battle with cancer.

The couple shared four children together and five grandchildren. Paying tribute to his late mother, Mark wrote at the time: "Our beautiful Mum left us last night after a fantastic life. From a young Irish rose to Lady Wogan , she was the epitome of style and grace. A Mother, Grandmother and Wife, with love and kindness at her core. A strength and a belief that saw her through many of life's trials."

He added: "A sense of humour and a turn of phrase that would have you in fits of laughter. A proper lady in every sense of the word. Her and Dad are hopefully sharing a vodka martini and hoping we don't make too much of fuss. We love you Mum, now and forever."iends

And on the back of his post, many rushed to the comment section including fans and celebrity friends. The Grand Tour presenter, Jeremy Clarkson wrote: "Horrible when it happens. Thinking of you." GB News presenter Eamonn Holmes shared his condolences and said: "Mark, so sorry to hear. What a woman and what a couple. My sincere condolences to you."

Strictly Come Dancing star Tess Daly added: "Thinking of you at this time." Meanwhile former Boyzone singer Ronan Keating was keen to pen: "Sending love matey. God bless ya all." Lady Helen married Sir Terry at a parish in Rathmines, Dublin in 1965. The pair resided in Taplow, Buckinghamshire but also had a home in Gascony in southwestern France.
