BBC radio presenter and reporter Andy Ball has died, BBC Merseyside has announced.

In a post shared on their Facebook page, they said: "We’re sad to have to tell you that our friend and Colleague Andy Ball has passed away. Andy worked for BBC Merseyside for nearly 30 years as a Presenter, reporter and part of the management team. He loved the river and enjoyed nothing more than getting out into the communities right across the whole of Merseyside.

"We will miss him dearly and send all our love and condolences to his wife Lynn and family." His fans rushed to the comment section to pay their respects, with one user writing: "Such sad news.....and quite a shock. Andy was always good to listen to and a true gentleman. My condolences to Lynn, and Andy's family, friends and colleagues. May he rest in peace."

Another posted: "Very sad news, an excellent all round broadcaster, condolences to his family, colleagues and friends," and one user said: "He allows came across as a friend on the air, a very knowledgeable and cleaver friend but always a friend. My condolences to his wife, family friends and colleagues."

Andy Ball was a presenter for 30 years

One heartbroken listener said: "I am so sad to hear this news. Having worked at Radio Merseyside for a few years, Andy was always so generous with his time and patience with everyone. He truly loved Liverpool, the station and all the people in it. Such a lasting impact that he will have had. Sending my best wishes and all my thoughts to his family and the RM family, as I know that you all will be hurting too."

In the post, BBC Merseyside shared a collage of photos. One showed a professional shot of Andy while another showed him mid-broadcasting. They added over the photos: "1963 - 2025". They also showed lovely pictures of him posing with the BBC Children In Need Pudsey bear headband. Andy presented for Saturday Breakfast on BBC Merseyside as well as Paths in Time and more.

When he was presenting on Saturdays, he said of his programme: "I know many people still have to work on a Saturday, but somehow the feel of the day is different to the hurley-burley of weekdays, so I hope to wind down the pace a little, while still supplying information to help people make the most of their weekend."
