Ben Affleck Praises ‘Spectacular’ Ex Jennifer Lopez in First Comment Since Their Divorce

Ben Affleck finally broke his silence about Jennifer Lopez amid their divorce and fans might be surprised to hear what he had to say. The 52-year-old actor took the high road when talking about his ex and this turn of events might be a sign that they will walk away from the marriage amicably in the end. 

Affleck, in an Entertainment Tonight appearance with Matt Damon and Cillian Murphy, was promoting the film, Small Things Like These, but the media outlet — of course — wanted to ask about their project with Lopez, Unstoppable. Damon and Affleck’s Artists Equity company also produced his estranged wife’s film. 

The Town star didn’t hesitate to talk about the project and took the lead in discussing the cast, including Lopez. 

“Unstoppable is a very different movie than this [Small Things Like These], but in a way, it’s similarly rooted in the passion of really talented artists,” he explained. “Billy Goldenberg and Jennifer and Don Cheadle and Jharrel [Jerome], and Bobby Cannavale, all were really passionate about this film.” That’s when Affleck commented on the 55-year-old superstar’s performance. 

“Jennifer is spectacular,” he praised her. “We believed in the right people, and Unstoppable is another example of that” 

Despite a PDA-filled afternoon at the Beverly Hills Hotel in September, the former dynamic duo is moving ahead with their divorce and navigating “awkward” run-ins at school events.  “Ben and Jen are resigned to keeping things as is,” an In Touch Weekly source said in late October. “The hope is it’ll get easier as time goes by.”

Affleck is throwing himself into his work while Lopez is focusing on self-care and learning to be OK with being single. “You have to be complete if you want something that’s more complete. You have to be good on your own,” she told Interview Magazine. “I thought I learned that, but I didn’t. And then, this summer, I had to be like, “I need to go off and be on my own. I want to prove to myself that I can do that.”
