Ben Fogle rose to fame in the year 2000 when he appeared on the BBC reality show Castaway.
Since then, he has gone from strength to strength as a TV presenter, specialising in environmental topics as the face of Countryfile and Animal Park.
It's fair to say fans are accustomed to seeing the 50-year-old broadcaster dressed in waterproof trousers and fleece jackets while presenting his adventure shows.
But on Friday (October 25), the TV star sent fans wild with a daring new look. Taking to Instagram, the dad-off-two could be seen reclining in front of a roaring fire in a country cabin, where he showcased his muscular thighs in a pair of shorts.
Wrapped up on his top half with a thick green jumper, khaki coat, and fingerless gloves, Ben seemed to embrace the cold—except from the waist down, where he sported tight-fitting green shorts.
Defending his bold choice, he shared: “I’m not gonna lie. I love a short short. The shorter the short short the better. Whatever the weather. Whatever the season. Whatever the setting. Long live the short short.”
His post quickly caused a stir among followers. Explorer Steve Backshall commented: “Someone did not skip leg day…” while Good Morning Britain’s weatherman added: “Quadinhell remind me never to wear shorts next to you.”
Fans added to the excitement with comments such as: “Is this a thirst trap?” and “LOOK AT THOSE QUADS YOUNG MAN!” Others praised his style, saying: “And we also love your short shorts,” and “There was never a thirst trap like [this].”
One admirer remarked: “If you’ve got the quads, flaunt them! My husband has a fine pair of legs and is still in shorts in the drizzly but beautiful Lake District.” Another quipped: “Well if all men had those legs a short short is a good idea…”
While Ben clearly spends plenty of time on fitness, he hasn’t slowed down his career commitments. He has fronted Channel 5’s New Lives in the Wild since it first hit screens in 2013, where he travels worldwide to meet people who have left mainstream life for an offbeat, adventurous existence.
To his 625,000 Instagram followers, Ben recently teased: “New Lives in the Wild……..coming soon,” alongside a photo of himself in an unknown, remote location.
The post about his shorts comes after Ben candidly shared his struggles with mental health. He revealed he faced “crippling paranoia and anxiety” during a “mental health breakdown,” and explained the methods he used in recovery, including cognitive behavioural therapy, medicine, and simplifying his lifestyle.
In a recent Instagram post, Ben wrote: “A year ago I suffered a mental health wobble. An episode. A storm. A blip. I don’t know if there is a specific term for it but it was basically a burnt out, break down. I’ve been on quite a journey since.
"I’ve learnt a lot about my neurological uniquenesses. And I’ve navigated the storm. Through a mix of CBT, medicine, and now some alternative therapies I feel like my old self. Gone is the crippling paranoia and anxiety, replaced by my calm old self.”
He continued: “I’m telling you this firstly because I believe as someone who shares my successes it’s important to also share our vulnerabilities. It is not to jump on some trend or for sympathy. It’s because if it happened to me, it can happen to you. But just like a broken bone or a pneumonia ravaged lung or even a flesh eating bug (all of which I have had). We can heal.”
