Ben Stiller recently had to applaud Andy Cohen for the production behind the Real Housewives catalog. As it turns out, Ben is quite the fan of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.
It’s always fun to hear when a celebrity enjoys reality TV. It speaks to the genre’s mass appeal. Ben Stiller is apparently such a fan of reality TV that he even briefly went out with a reality star. But what really impresses Ben is the editing behind the Housewives franchise.
As longtime Bravo fans know, the edits are controversial. Ironically, there’s a certain layer of reality removed when footage goes through an edit. It’s good to keep in mind that what we’re seeing is not entirely real. But arguably, that’s what makes it so entertaining in the first place.
Ben Stiller compliments RHOBH for its “humor” and “irony”
Ben Stiller recently appeared on SiriusXM’s Radio Andy. While there, he asked Andy, “When you’re making Real Housewives, how long does it take you? Come on. Right? ‘Cause you get into those edits, right? Do you edit all those episodes?” Andy confirmed that he gives notes on every episode. Credit where it’s due, Andy’s notes gave us TV like the RHOSLC Season 4 finale.
“It’s really well edited that show,” Ben said, referring to Beverly Hills specifically. “I’m totally serious.” He complimented the show’s “humor and the irony.” Ben confirmed that Beverly Hills was the only franchise he watched regularly. “I only have bandwidth for so many Real Housewives shows,” he joked. However, he said people have pressed him to watch SLC.
Ben then explained how he and his daughter bonded over reality TV. He said that Ella continually pushes him to watch RHONY. Ben said he felt he would have to go back and rewatch 10 seasons. Andy said, “No you don’t. We’ll talk about it.” Oof. But Ben said he and his daughter agreed that reality TV was a great release from one’s own world.
