Beyoncé 'so honored' as she finally takes home Album Of The Year Grammy after four snubs

Beyoncé finally won album of the year at the Grammy Awards for her country LP Cowboy Carter. The win was part of a history making night for the star.

Despite being the most nominated artist in the awards history, with 99 throughout her career, this was the first time she took home the top prize despite being shortlisted four times previously.

The star was previously in the running in 2010 when she lost to Taylor Swift for her album Fearless. She was then nominated again in 2015 for her eponymous album "Beyoncé," but lost to Morning Phase by Beck.

In 2017 her Lemonade album, lost to 25 by Adele and in 2023 for her offering Renaissance failed to win against Harry's House by Harry Styles.

The award was presented to her by members of the Los Angeles Fire Department, and she was joined by her 13-year-old daughter Blue Ivy Carter to accept it.

She beat out a tough field to nab the gong besting André 3000, Sabrina Carpenter, Charli XCX, Jacob Collier, Billie Eilish, Chappell Roan, and Taylor Swift.

She said she felt "honoured," adding: "It's been many, many years and I just want to thank the Grammys, every songwriter, every collaborator, every producer, all the hard work."

She went on to dedicate her win to Linda Martell, who was the first commercially successful black female artist in Country music.

The win makes her the first black woman in the 21st century to receive the honor. The last woman to acheive the honour was Lauryn Hill for The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill 26 years ago. Prior to this Natalie Cole won the award in 1992 followed by Whitney Houston in 1994.

Earlier in the evening she had admitted she was "still in shock" after winning best Country album - making her the first black female artist to win in that category

Accepting the award from Taylor Swift she said: "Wow, I really was not expecting this. I want to thank God that I'm able to do what I love after so many years.

"Genre is a code word to keep us in place as artists, and I just want to encourage us to do what we're passionate about," she added.

She also took home the Best Country Duo/Group Performance with Miley Cyrus for their collaboration II Most Wanted.

Prior to the ceremony she had set a record at this year's Grammys, amassing an unprecedented 11 nominations, which is the highest ever for a female artist in a single year.
