“Real Time With Bill Maher” could soon be on its last leg, according to its host.
Speaking on his “Club Random” podcast, Maher, 68, told his guest, Jane Fonda, that he may “quit” his “Real Time” show because he doesn’t want to deal with covering another term from President-elect Donald Trump.
“I’m shitting my pants. I mean, I may quit because I don’t want to do another,” Maher said during the Dec. 1 episode of the podcast show, which was filmed before the 2024 election in November. “I did all the Trump stuff before anybody. I said he was a con man before anyone else. [I called him] a mafia boss.”
The comedian added, “I was the one who said he wasn’t going to concede the election. I’ve done it.”
Fonda then questioned Maher, “Well, then how come he’s so hostile to Jimmy Kimmel and not to you?”
“He’s very hostile to me. He tweets about me every week,” Maher told the actor. “Every week [Trump] accidentally watches my show and then [writes], ‘Low ratings, loser,’” he added while imitating the politician’s voice.
Maher went on to tell Fonda that he’s “bored with” covering Trump on his show.
“So find a new thing to do and not do Trump. Do something else,” Fonda suggested.
“The show is the politics, there’s no other thing, and he’s going to dominate the news like he always does,” Maher explained.
Trump has dug his heels into Maher over the years, most recently calling out the talk show host as “sloppy and tired.”
“The ratings challenged Bill Maher, on his increasingly boring show on HBO, is really having a hard time coping with TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME,” Trump wrote on his social media platform, TruthSocial, in September.
“He is a befuddled mess, sloppy and tired, and every conversation, with B and C list guests, seems to start with, or revert back to, ME!,” Trump added.
HBO’s “Real Time with Bill Maher” has aired for a whopping 658 episodes since its release in 2003. The show was renewed through 2026 by its network earlier this year.
