Blockbuster Trade Proposal Sees Timberwolves Land Anthony Edwards More Help

4 hours ago 3

Last season, the Minnesota Timberwolves were one of the best teams in the entire NBA. They made it all the way to the Western Conference Finals, losing to the Dallas Mavericks in six games.

Minnesota had established its identity as a tough, gritty team that didn't back down from anyone. But over the offseason, the front office made the decision to move on from star Karl-Anthony Towns.

Now about halfway through the NBA season, the Timberwolves have yet to replicate their success from a year ago. The additions they made for Towns haven't fit in well and it has made some wonder if they will look to make a move ahead of the NBA trade deadline.

In this new trade proposal, Minnesota moves on from one of its big offseason acquisitions and lands a highly coveted piece on the trade block. The deal would be between the Timberwolves and Brooklyn Nets, landing Cam Johnson in Minnesota.

Using the Spotrac trade machine, here is what the deal would look like:

Wolves receive: Cam Johnson, Day'Ron Sharpe, and Trendon Watford

Nets receive: Julius Randle, a 2028 first-round draft pick, a 2025 second-round draft pick, a 2026 second-round draft pick, and a 2031 second-round draft pick

The Nets could probably get a little more for Johnson but landing the 2028 first-round pick from Minnesota could be worth a lot. Minnesota has no guarantee to be good until then, especially considering their financial situation.

They also land an asset in Randle that they can flip in another deal down the line. But for the Timberwolves, adding Johnson to the mix could heavily change things.

Due to his strong 3-point shooting, he could help Minnesota space the floor. Johnson is also a good defender, giving the Timberwolves more wing depth to use within the loaded West.

Giving up their only first-round pick available for trade, as of right now, would be a gamble but this Timberwolves team needs to win now. Anthony Edwards won't be happy losing for much longer so they owe it to him to go all-in.

Sharpe also gives Minnesota some extra size at a reasonable cost. This deal could be a real win-win for both sides if it were to happen.
