Former AEW Champion Saraya Opens up About Months-Long Absence

Former AEW Women's World Champion Saraya responded strongly to a fan's comment on social media claiming that Tony Khan wasn't putting her on television due to her clothing choices.

You’re so moronic. I asked for time off for the first time in my career for personal reasons and Tony was gracious enough to give me that.
Also I’m a 32 year old woman. I can wear whatever tf I want. https://t.co/d7jUtab3KL

Saraya didn't hold back, firing back, "You're so moronic. I asked for time off for the first time in my career for personal reasons, and Tony was gracious enough to give me that. Also, I'm a 32-year-old woman. I can wear whatever tf I want."

After joining AEW in November 2022, Saraya quickly became a staple on television and captured the Women's World Title just nine months later at All In.

However, her presence in 2024 has been more limited, with her last appearance on AEW TV taking place in October.

In a red-carpet interview at the American Reality TV Awards in November, Saraya shared that she was taking time off to focus on personal and non-wrestling projects, including filming an episode of "Catfish."

Though she didn't give a concrete timeline for her return, her absence sparked speculation and rumors among fans.

Saraya recently shared a photo on social media of herself wearing a Stone Cold Steve Austin hoodie, which some fans took as a slight against AEW. A few even went as far as to claim that her wearing non-AEW merchandise was the reason she hadn't been on TV.

Responding to these comments, Saraya revealed that her time off was for personal reasons and firmly shut down any insinuation that her wardrobe choices had anything to do with her absence.

In addition to taking time away from the ring, Saraya extended her AEW contract in September 2024, signing a completely new deal just as her original contract was set to expire. While AEW had the option to extend her deal, the new agreement marks a fresh start.

Her last match took place on the October 8 edition of AEW Dynamite, where she competed in a four-way match alongside Willow Nightingale, Jamie Hayter, and Nyla Rose to determine a new number-one contender.

Nightingale secured the victory, and since then, Saraya has been off AEW programming.

While her absence was initially shrouded in mystery, Saraya's recent social media post provided some clarity—her break is purely personal, and it has nothing to do with her apparel or any supposed issues with AEW.
