The Washington Commanders are facing their toughest in the playoffs, as they are facing the No. 1 seeded Detroit Lions in the Divisional Round of the Playoffs. However, they will need to continue their game without star tight end Zach Ertz.
Ertz has been taken out of the game and is being evaluated with a concussion. He is officially questionable to return.
Ertz has already made his presence felt in the game, as caught a pass near the endzone in the first quarter that led to the Commanders securing a much-needed first down. The catch then led to Washington scoring a touchdown.
Ertz secured two catches for 13 yards, including the one that led to the Commanders converting a fourth-and-one.
Washington needs all players playing at a high level if they are to get past the surging Lions, and losing Ertz for the rest of the game is going to heavily impact the passing game. At the time of this writing, Detroit has come back and is leading the way 14-10.
Even with the lead, the Commanders are playing some good football. They will just be down one of their best offensive weapons in Ertz.
The star tight end has not been that effective in the playoffs, as he also only secured two catches for 23 yards in the Wild Card Round when the Commanders won a close 23-20 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Ertz may not be pumping out 100 yards a game, but he has proven to be very effective when needed. Case and point in converting a fourth down for the team when they need it.
