Blockbuster Trade Proposal Sends All-Star Closer To Diamondbacks In Straight-Up Swap

Trade rumors have begun to swirl around Milwaukee Brewers closer Devin Williams over the last few days after Milwaukee declined his club option, opting to let him enter his final year of arbitration.

Zachary Rymer of Bleacher Report recently listed the top 10 trade destinations for Williams, with the Arizona Diamondbacks finding their way into the top five. Rymer proposed an intriguing deal that would make Williams a Diamondback.

Here's the full trade proposal that would send Williams to Arizona:

Diamondbacks receive: RHP Devin Williams

Brewers receive: RHP Yilber Diaz (No. 6 prospect)

Diaz, 24, is the sixth-ranked prospect in a weak Diamondbacks farm system. He has a fastball that can sit in the mid to upper 90s alongside two solid breaking ball offerings. He looked good in his short stint in the big leagues, posting a sub-4.00 ERA in 28.1 innings pitched.

Williams, 30, is a game-changing closer. The right-hander is one of the best arms in the game with one of the best pitch offerings being his "Airbender" changeup. Milwaukee may want to move him, but selling him now for just one prospect would be selling low.

We saw former Miami Marlins closer Tanner Scott go to the San Diego Padres for a massive return at the trade deadline this year. Williams has longer sustained success and a higher ceiling than Scott, so Milwaukee should net a much bigger return than this deal suggests.
