Brandy is telling her story in her own words as she announces that her memoir will be available this October.

“Writing my memoir was one of the most challenging yet rewarding experiences of my life,” said the Vocal Bible on Instagram. “I allowed myself the space to be fearless and vulnerable to reveal some of my most intimate moments. For the first time, I am sharing my story—honest, unfiltered and not through the lens of media or critics.”

The book—whose title has not been shared— will detail her upbringing in the church, starring on Moesha, becoming the first Black Cinderella, and other “unforgettable highs” while also opening up about “struggles behind the scenes [and] the trials that tested my spirit and shaped the woman I am today.”

Brandy described the memoir as “more than a book,” but rather “it’s a reflection of resilience, hope, and rediscovering myself beyond the fame, the music and the spotlight.” She also noted that it’s been a “lifetime in the making.”

In a separate statement to PEOPLE, the accomplished singer added, “It’s such an honor and such a blessing to be able to inspire people, to be able to have purpose that way, to be able to encourage young girls to dream big and to go after what you want.”

After releasing her debut Christmas album in 2023, Brandy continued her resurgence by starring in A24’s The Front Room and reprising her role as Cinderella in Disney+’s Descendants: The Rise of Red.

The memoir will be released on Oct. 7, 2025, and is currently available for preorder, wherever books are sold.
