Hallmark announced big changes to season 3 of its hit series “The Way Home.” While the first two seasons aired on The Hallmark Channel, the new season is going to premiere first on Hallmark’s paid streaming service. Fans are having mixed reactions to the news.
Note: Spoilers through season 2 are below.
‘The Way Home’ Won’t Air on TV Until Sometime in Fall 2025
“The Way Home” will premiere on January 2, 2025, on Hallmark+, Variety first reported. The series will then air on TV later in the year, sometime in fall 2025.
The new season will pick up right where season 2 left off, with Jacob finally returning home, Variety shared.
Fans are eagerly waiting to see his reunion with Del, who has no idea he’s about to show up on her doorstep.
Season 3 Will Travel Back to 1974
Variety reported that season 3 has a lot of surprises for fans. This time, the Landry family will be traveling back to 1974 when Del and Colton first met as teens. And Alice is going to meet a young Evelyn Goodwin, and their friendship may cause some complications.
Elliot and Kat will still be navigating their complicated relationship in the present day, including dealing with Kat’s romantic connection to Thomas just before the end of season 2.
A Trailer for Season 3 Has Also Been Released
Sadie LaFlamme-Snow, who plays Alice in the series, shared a trailer for season 3 on Instagram.
The trailer starts out with someone running through the Landry field and Alice seeing them. It looks like someone returning from being in the pond.
We see Alice and Kat reading a journal entry that says, “Come back to me and to the pond.” The next scene shows Kat at the pond yelling out, “Who are you?!”
There are a lot of quick shots to moments with Elliot, Alice, Del, and others. But the best moment is what appears to be a quick shot of Del in shock as she hugs an adult Jacob who just returned home.
Then we see that Kat and Alice have traveled back to June 1974, and we get a quick look at teenage Colton meeting teenage Del.
Many Fans Were Disappointed the Show Is Moving to Hallmark+
Some fans are excited about the news, but most have mixed feelings.
In a public Facebook group for “The Way Home” fans, news of the streaming move gathered hundreds of comments in just a few minutes. Some fans were excited that they don’t have to wait very long and can start watching again in January.
But others were concerned because they couldn’t afford streaming and didn’t like the idea of waiting until the fall to see it themselves.
One person wrote: “I guess I won’t be watching. I’m tired of all the + streaming. I pay enough already.”
Another person wrote, “I’m retired now. I thoroughly enjoyed this show, reading all the chats and commenting at times but I am not able to spend money on another service when I already pay for Verizon! How to watch this? So unfair!”
Another fan noted that if you rent Hallmark+ through a library card on Hoopla, you can watch that way. And other fans who can’t afford streaming said they might wait until the show’s final month and then binge it with a month-long free trial.
On Hallmark’s official “The Way Home” Facebook page, fans also expressed disappointed.
One fan wrote, “I love that it is coming back and was excited but unfortunately I won’t be moving over to Hallmark+. Because they moved it makes me fear it might hurt the show more then help it because I know I am not gonna be the only one who won’t follow it over.”
Because fans love sharing theories about the show on social media, many viewers are also worried about spoilers.
One fan wrote, “I guess I’m done. Love the show but I’m not paying for more subscriptions and I don’t want to see on Facebook everything that happens before I have a chance to see it.”
