A man who won The Voice has been airlifted to hospital after being shot in the stomach. Country singer Sundance Head is fighting for his life but is now stable, with his wife asking his fans to pray for his recovery.

Sundance Head's agent, Trey Newman, said the star is currently in a "stable" condition in a Texas hospital after the gunshot hit his naval area, but reportedly missed all of his vital organs. "We don't know if it was an accident with his gun or if it was another hunter nearby," Newman told The New York Post.

"The bullet is lodged in some fatty tissue, and the only way it could have happened is if it travelled through something else." He also confirmed it "was not self-inflicted".

Head's wife, Misty, later revealed he didn't need emergency surgery like they initially thought, reports Sun. She confirmed doctors have taken a decision to not remove the bullet at this time. She told his followers to keep him in their prayers following Friday's incident.

Misty wrote on Faceook: "Prayer Warriors we need y'all. This is Misty – I don't have a lot of information but please keep Sundance in your prayers. Sundance has been life-flighted with a gunshot wound to his stomach per the paramedics who called me.

"They did get him stable for the flight (per the paramedic) We are on our way to Tyler now. Again this is the only information I have at the time. Please just keep him in your prayers."
