Actor Linda Regan has paid tribute to her late husband Brian Murphy following the news of his death this week.

It was announced earlier that Brian had passed away, aged 92, on Sunday morning, prompting tributes on social media. He's remembered for his roles on sitcoms like George and Mildred, as well as Last of the Summer Wine.

His wife Linda, 75 - who played April in Hi-de-Hi! - has paid tribute herself. A post on an X account for her reads: "My love for you will never die. RIP sweetheart." It was accompanied by a throwback photo of the couple kissing. Linda had previously said in a statement: "I was lucky to have in my lifetime found my soulmate. Brian who I will love forever."

Brian and Linda met more than three decades ago around the time that they appeared in the play Wife Begins at 40 together in Eastbourne in 1990. He later shared that the pair, who would be celebrating their 30th wedding anniversary this year after having got married in 1995, "hit it off straight away". As reported by the Express in 2016, Brian added: "I can't grumble about my lot because I'm very happy. I've brought up a family and been working relatively solidly for 60 years. It has been a lot of fun."

The late actor, who has two children from a previous marriage, began his career in the 1960s. He notably played George Roper in the ITV sitcom Man About the House, which ran from 1973 to 1976. He later reprised the role in spin-off George and Mildred, in which he starred alongside Yootha Joyce from 1976 to 1979.

His other acting credits including having played Alvin Smedley in Last of the Summer Wine and Stan in Wizadora. He later had roles in shows such as the Catherine Tate Show, Benidorm and more recently Holby City.

There's been an outpouring of tributes to him this week following the news of his death. Writer Derren Litten wrote on X: "Incredibly saddened to hear of the passing of Brian Murphy. A genuine legend of comedy acting. Man About the House + George & Mildred were a childhood favourites then I had the immense honour of writing for him in The Catherine Tate Show & Benidorm. Much love to Linda & family."

Another fan wrote: "Such a shame. A legend of TV and stage. A great life well lived. RIP Brian. You can join Mildred in TV comedy heaven now with the other greats." Whilst someone else said: "May he rest in peace. Brian was a brilliant actor."
