Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy's trailer revealed one key character has died.
The new trailer for the latest Bridget Jones film has been released, leaving fans heartbroken to find out that Colin Firth, who has portrayed her love interest Mark Darcy since the first film in 2001, won't be featured in the new movie.
This is due to his character's tragic death, which leaves Bridget a widow and single mother to their two children. Now single at 51, the fourth instalment of the franchise Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy follows our favourite romantic comedy heroine as she grapples with life without Mark - and possibly falls in love again.

There are three potential love interests for Bridget - a teacher from her kids' school, a charming younger man who comes to her aid, and Hugh Grant returns as the notorious Daniel Cleaver. The trailer immediately reveals the news of Mark's departure.
Bridget is seen walking and saying: "In life, there are memories that will never leave us." Mark then appears and repeats his famous line to Bridget: "I like you, just as you are."
However, it's all in Bridget's imagination as she arrives alone at a friend's house and the voiceover states: "But sometimes those memories are suddenly all we're left with." Bridget Jones devotees were left clutching their tissues as the new movie hinted at the demise of the iconic Mr. Darcy, sparking an overwhelming wave of emotional outbursts.
Devastated fans took to social media in despair, with one lamenting: "I was not prepared to cry over the death of Mr. Darcy in the new Bridget Jones movie. IS MARK DARCY DEAD? ? ? " Another vented their frustration: "I don't want to be in a universe where my beloved Mark Darcy doesn't exist-Um they finally gave her a happy ending kids just to kill Mr. Darcy? Why?'"
A third shared their disbelief: "u can't just kill Mr.Darcy like that nooooooooo! ! ! ! " Another said in anguish: "I can't read this. I can't accept Mark's death."
Yet another fan expressed their anger: "Bridget jones without Mark Darcy what's the point; MARK DARCY AND BRIDGET JONES BEING SEPARATED ONCE AGAIN I MIGHT SCREAM'. Fans won't have to wait much longer to see the new Bridget Jones film as it's being released in UK cinemas on Valentine's Day, 14 February 2025.
Elsewhere in the trailer, Bridget's family and friends encourage her to get back out there as her dear old dad tells her from a hospital bed."
