Britain's Got Talent star Susan Boyle 'determined to keep going' after suffering major stroke

Susan Boyle, 63, suffered a stroke in 2022 but said she is now feeling better and is looking forward to 2025, as she revealed plans for a new documentary and a drama

Scottish singer Susan Boyle said she is "determined to keep going" as she revealed her plans for 2025 - three years after suffering a major stroke.

The 63-year-old, who rose to fame in 2009 after appearing as a contestant on the third series of Britain's Got Talent, said she is now feeling better and is "ready to go." She suffered a stroke in 2022 and said she "had to fight" her way back after her illness.

She revealed: "It's taken me three years and it's been hard - I'm not going to pretend otherwise but it's made me determined to keep going." Susan said she returned to singing lessons as soon as she felt strong enough after her stroke - and confessed that she is excited for what next year has in store for her, including plans to work on a documentary and a drama.

Talking to STV programme What's on Scotland, Susan told news presenter Laura Boyd: "There's a documentary and I've got a drama coming up. Hopefully, a tour - my feet won't touch the ground, really." Speaking of the drama, Susan said she would like to see Olivia Coleman play her as "she seems like a happy kind of person."

Susan's life completely changed after her BGT audition of "I Dreamed a Dream" catapulted her to global stardom. Recalling that period, she said: "It was overnight because one minute I was watching it with my brother, and the next, there were these screaming kids at the door. I opened the door, and they were asking for my autograph.

"It was a bit of a whirlwind because you never think you're going to get anywhere, and then all of a sudden, bang!" She said she wants to "keep going for as long as I can" while admitting that her "bucket list is overflowing."

She also said she is looking forward to spending time with her loved ones over Christmas, relaxing and watching TV. She said: "It is about being with people you love, and that matters more than anything."

Susan's debut album, I Dreamed A Dream, was one of the biggest releases of the 21st century, selling more than 10 million copies across the world. The star is said to have made over £22million during her career, but she has been very open about steering clear of a celebrity lifestyle.

The singer previously told Piers Morgan she lives off a humble £300-500 weekly allowance. In an interview back in 2010, she told him: "I've only just learnt how to go in a taxi. I don't flash the cash."

Asked by Piers if she would like to buy a Lamborghini car, she asked, innocently: "Is that a drink? No fancy cars, no." Susan continued: "I'm always careful with money. I'm not saying I'm mean, but I'm always careful. I have an allowance, it's about £300-500 a week because that's plenty for me. It's pocket money."
