Cartoon Network's "darkest" show still scares audiences 23 years on.

Courage The Cowardly Dog has often been named one of the weirdest kids' shows of the noughties.

Someone tweeted a clip from one episode, which showed a terrifying dog with razor sharp teeth comforting a pink rabbit. The dog's gruff voice and aggressive demeanour transported viewers back to the childhood and Courage's weird cartoon world.

They added the caption: "One of the darkest episodes from a kids' show ever," as gobsmacked viewers gathered to share their thoughts. One person said: "I'm glad my kids never watched this cartoon series," while another added: "That whole show was dark," with a laughing emoji.

"I used to love tf outta this show and be scared of it at the same time," admitted another Courage the Cowardly Dog fan.

Someone else said that "most" of the show's episodes were "dark and creepy," while another fan added: "I lowkey think about this episode a lot. It was disturbing but in a way that my child mind couldn’t fully understand. Pretty sad too."

"Jesus Christ. Sometimes I think about watching this series with my adult eyes but every time I see a clip I’m basically just a kid again, still a scary as hell show," said one scarred viewer.

However, some people branded the iconic Cartoon Network series as one social media tweeted: "I loved Courage the Cowardly Dog. Such a unique show." Others branded the series their "favourite," "wild" and "so great".

The 1999 children's show is described as a "comedy horror," created by John R. Dilworth. The series followed the anxious Courage, a small pink dog who lives with an elderly married couple.

Muriel and Eustace Bagge live with Courage in Nowhere, a made-up town situated in the state of Kansas. During each episode, Courage's owners face bizarre, often paranormal situations that their four-legged friend has to help rescue them from.
