Brooke Shields has blasted a male surgeon for giving her a vaginal rejuvenation without the actress’ consent, branding the move a ‘rape of some kind’.
The 59-year-old had experienced discomfort, bleeding and chafing since high school due to the length of her labia, and she has now spoken out against a medic she says threw in a ‘little bonus’ during surgery.
She says in her upcoming memoir Brooke Shields Is Not Allowed to Get Old: Thoughts on Aging as a Woman that she was recommended to undergo a labia reduction to fix her years of issues.
But the Blue Lagoon star was rightfully fuming as she did not give consent to what happened in the operating room.
Brook said after she went under the knife she had a checkup with her Beverly Hills surgeon, during which he ‘proudly’ informed her he’d added ‘a little twofer’ to which she hadn’t consented.
The male doctor had given the Blue Lagoon star a vaginal rejuvenation, decreasing the average diameter of the vagina – a procedure mainly done for sexual reasons.
What is vaginal rejuvination?
Vaginal rejuvenation consists of surgical and nonsurgical treatments that firm up the skin around your vagina or tighten the vaginal canal.
There are several types of viganal rejuvination procedures:
- Labiaplasty – this is when the labia is reshaped, a procedure Brooke said she was having when the surgeon also performed a Vaginoplasty without her consent
- Vaginoplasty – tightens or repairs the vaginal canal, often done after childbirth
- Clitoral hood reduction – to remove extra skin covering the cliterous
- Monsplasty – removes fatty tissue from the pubic area
- Vulvoplasty – reshapes the external genetalia (the vulva)
- Perineoplasty – strengthens the perineum, which is the space between the vagina and anus
Brooke added in her book she was ‘dumbfounded’ by the ‘irreversible’ procedure, which she called an ‘invasion’. She also compared it to a ‘rape of some kind’.
In a chat to Us Weekly, Brooke said: ‘Nothing pointed toward this need to be tighter or smaller or firmer or younger, especially there.’
The Endless Love star did not tell husband Chris Henchy, 60, about the rejuvenation for ‘the longest time’ as she felt ‘shame’ over the experience.
She added she has now chosen to ‘share this very intimate information’ with her fans despite it being ‘too graphic’ and ‘too much’.
Brooke said: ‘If we are to change the way we approach and talk about women’s health, then we need to bring up the uncomfortable but very real issues. Shame is no longer an option.’
Booke Shields Is Not Allowed To Get Old is out on January 14th, and Brooke previously shared that she hoped it would h’elp start a conversation about how midlife can be the prime of life’.
Speaking about the inspiration behind her memoir’s title, Brooke said in conversation with Real Simple: ‘It’s something I’ve felt for a long time that people really imprint on me from a certain era of my life.
‘The more I talk to women who are over 40, the more I realise that part of this chasing youth is also not just for themselves but it’s for other people.
‘We’re not allowed to just grow and experience our life and be okay with it.’
