Cal Boyington, a veteran TV talent agent who co-founded Vital Artists Agency as well as executive produced the series Workaholics, has died. He was 53.
Boyington was found unresponsive at his home in San Pedro on Nov. 18, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. A medical examiner asserted the cause was probably a heart attack, but officials won’t know definitively until the completion of toxicology tests.
Born Michael Carlton Boyington on March 3, 1971, in Kansas City, Missouri, he later grew up in Vail, Colorado and eventually decided to pursue a career in the entertainment industry, which led him to L.A.
Prior to co-founding the talent firm Vital Artists Agency in 2020, Boyington worked as an unscripted agent at ICM Partners and head of alternative programming at Paradigm Talent Agency. During his time as an agent, he worked on the MTV reality series The Osbournes.
Boyington also had a passion for producing, serving as an executive producer at Manolin Entertainment for several years before joining Rebel Entertainment Partners as VP digital/TV. As a producer, he worked on projects including, Workaholics, R5Sons Alaska, Bible Quest, Cabo and Baker Boys: Inside the Surge.
“Known for his boundless energy, magnetic personality, and zest for life, Cal was truly the life of every party,” a release reads. “He possessed an extraordinary ability to light up a room and bring joy to everyone he met. Those who knew Cal would attest to his unwavering passion for living each day to its fullest.”
Boyington’s dog, a a Shibu Inu named Akua, was an early viral social media star known as “The Dancing Doge.”
Boyington is survived by his parents Mike Boyington and Travis “Penny” Farrar, and younger brother, B.G. Dickey.
