I thought Below Deck captains were supposed to have some form of honor amongst them. But the feud between Captain Lee Rosbach and Captain Sandy Yawn has gone on for quite a while. The two used to be co-workers, and while they each had their own ways of running ships, they seemed to respect one another’s management styles. But for a few years now, each has been taking digs. I thought I would have grown tired of their bickering, but it turns out that it was the squabble fans needed.
Captain Sandy Yawn and Captain Lee Rosbach defended one another
Their fight seems to sting a bit more for loyal Below Deck fans because these two once took each other’s sides. However, now everyone is dealing with a frustrating fallout between the two heavy hitters. During Season 6, Captain Lee was quite scared when Ashton Pienaar almost died. Immediately, Captain Sandy spoke out in defense of Lee, noting, My reaction was I knew exactly how Captain Lee felt. He probably wanted to drop to his knees, just the thought of killing someone. It wasn’t his fault.” While on Watch What Happens Live. In 2020, Lee returned the favor by defending Sandy during the celebration of the 100th episode of Below Deck.
The skipper noted, “I have complete empathy for what she’s going through because I know what she’s going through. And some of the situations that Captain Sandy gets put in, I see where they’re just totally unfair and totally just biased.” I have no idea where it all went wrong for these two. One moment, they are taking each other’s sides, and then the next, they are calling one another out for their bad decisions. Their friendship turned frenemy situation has intrigued me, especially because Captain Lee is retired. The shots keep coming, and to be honest, I’m not even sure when it started, let alone why it’s gotten to this point. All I know is I keep tuning in.
Captain Sandy Yawn and Captain Lee Rosbach have immense pride
When it comes to these two, pride goeth before destruction. There is no doubt that Captain Lee and Captain Sandy have excessive hubris when it comes to their careers. So it makes sense that neither enjoyed being questioned over choices they made while working. Captain Lee contradicted Sandy’s choice to fire Hannah Ferrier for bringing Valium onto the vessel. Lee pointed out, “When you have a legally prescribed medication that you’re supposed to take by a licensed, practicing doctor. Captains do not have the authority to deprive you of that privilege.”
The feud heated up as Sandy found her moment to drag Lee. During Below Deck Season 8, Captain Lee kicked a guest off their charter after a guest kept disobeying him and taking dangerous night swims. Sandy called out the Florida native for his temper, adding, “I wasn’t there, but I would never talk to a guest like that.” Neither enjoyed having their leadership motives questioned, but as a fan, I couldn’t help but wonder what would come next in the fight.
Both Below Deck captains are being petty
I love a petty Bravo fight, but I never thought I’d watch my two favorite captains duke it out. But here I am, waiting for my popcorn to cool down. Recently, Captain Lee shared that Captain Sandy was his least favorite Below Deck skipper. Firstly, why!? I can’t help but wonder if Captain Lee was that upset when Captain Sandy stood in for him during Season 10. I thought she did a great job. Clearly, Lee disagrees. But during Hayu’s FanFest, Captain Sandy fired back via The Standard, sharing, “I don’t know. It’s sad. I’m sorry, Captain Lee, for however I offended you. I don’t know, I wish him well.”
Leave it to Captain Sandy to take the high ground. The squabble is starting to make Captain Lee look thirsty, and I never thought that Bravo fans would see that. What I’d love to happen is for Andy Cohen to facilitate a sit-down between the two. Not only would it be a great TV moment, but maybe the two captains could find some sort of resolution. Until then, I’ll just be patiently waiting for their next flare-up.
