A video about a cat "locked" in her own world while transfixed on a tablet device has gone viral on TikTok.
The clip was shared by @jadesharpy and has garnered 1.2 million views since it was posted on November 18.
The footage shows a hand opening the side of a cardboard box. Inside, a feline is shown laying on a bed watching what appears to be a cat food commercial playing on the screen of a tablet device.
A note overlaid on the clip says: "I can't stop laughing, she's not left this box all day."
A caption shared with the post simply says "crying."
The cat's fixation with watching the tablet screen is understandable as screen time may be a key form of enrichment for especially indoor cats.
According to the findings of a September 2008 published in Applied Animal Behaviour Science, "visual stimulation in the form of televised moving images, notably that combining elements of prey items and linear movement, may be enriching for domestic cats housed in rescue shelters."
The study found that the cats that were exposed to programs "depicting animate and inanimate forms of movement spent significantly more of their time looking at the monitors than those exposed to the moving images of humans or the blank screen."
