The Louis Vuitton gown looked even better the second time round.
Outfit repeating, although we all do it, isn't exactly a common occurrence for celebs, particularly when it comes to red carpet looks (I'm sure the same pair of jogging bottoms are lived in at home like the rest of us). Yet, while swathes of gorgeous gowns paraded through last night's Golden Globe Awards, Cate Blanchett looked somewhat familiar, re-wearing the same glorious gold number as she did eight months earlier at the Cannes Film Festival, and I, for one, am glad to see it. Proving the 'wear it only once' mentality is well and truly on the way out, Blanchett upcycled the shimmering gold Louis Vuitton dress by adding extra crystals across the neck and shoulders. She then, with the help of stylist Elizabeth Stewart (who also works with Amanda Seyfried and Julia Roberts), finished the look with Louis Vuitton chunky hoop earrings.
'Cherish and re-wear!' was the message from stylist Stewart, who took to Instagram to highlight the subtle tweaks to the dress, reminding us all of the importance of looking after our clothing. And although the actress didn't scoop up the Best Actress award for Disclaimer, she certainly won the praise of many a fashion fan. After all, when we already have enough clothing on the planet to clothe the next six generations, Blanchett's re-wearing certainly serves as a reminder that we can be a lot more creative with the stuff that we already own.
This isn't the first time, however, that Cate Blanchett has shown a more sustainable side on the red carpet. She's known to have reworked a black lace Armani Privé Gown at least three times, starting with the original design at the 2014 Golden Globes, which she then wore again at Cannes in 2018, and then completely reimagined with a slim-fitting sequin overlay for the 2023 SAG Awards. So, who knows where or in what iteration we'll see this glorious golden Louis Vuitton number next? Lauren Cunningham is acting fashion news editor at Grazia.
