OpenAI’s popular AI chatbot ChatGPT is currently down, making the platform inaccessible to users around the world on Friday night. The outage has also affected integration with Siri in the iOS 18.2 beta as a consequence.
ChatGPT outage affects iOS 18.2 users
According to OpenAI, the company has already identified the cause of the problem and is currently working to implement a fix. Although OpenAI says it will restore ChatGPT’s functionality “as soon as possible,” there’s no estimate of when the service will be back online.
Many users are seeing random error messages when trying to use ChatGPT right now.
With iOS 18.2 beta, which introduces new Apple Intelligence features, Apple has finally enabled the promised Siri integration with ChatGPT. With this feature, users can interact with the OpenAI chatbot directly from the Siri interface. However, because of the outage, this interaction is also broken for many iPhone, iPad and Mac users running the latest beta software.
It’s worth noting that iOS users will be able to interact with GPT via Siri for free without even needing an OpenAI account. However, Apple also lets users subscribe to ChatGPT Plus and link their account to Siri right from the iOS settings so they can benefit from paid features.
