Cher’s son Chaz Bono is taking his seven-year romance with fiancée Shara Blue Mathes to the next level, as shown in new pics of them moving into a new home together, but he’s going to extreme measures to keep his meddling mom at arm’s length, a source exclusively tells In Touch.
“Cher wants more time, especially now that she’s estranged from Elijah [Allman], but Chaz wants independence even if they produced a movie together [Little Bites],” the source says.
Cher, 78, has been effectively at war with her son Elijah, 48, as he desperately fights back against her attempts to gain control of his life and finances via conservatorship. Courts have twice rebuffed the Moonstruck star’s petitions to wrest her son’s personal stake in his trust fund away from him over his alleged substance abuse issues.
The “If I Could Turn Back Time” singer’s latest move was filing a request to access his medical records. Elijah, Cher’s son with her second husband Gregg Allman, responded by claiming the “Goddess of Pop” should take a look at her own life before she tries to meddle in others’.
“I have seen her suffer from depression in the past and I do not believe she is capable of making appropriate decisions for my estate,” he stated in his response to her request.
Chaz, 55, Cher’s other son with late ex husband Sonny Bono, seems to share his brother’s sentiment, as “he’s made it clear her notorious meddling will not be tolerated if she wants any kind of relationship moving forward,” the insider says.
Chaz first linked up with former child star Shara, 55, who is currently his fiancée, in January 2017. She has previously worked as a sober companion and case manager for people suffering from addiction.
“The reason Chaz’s romance with Shara has worked is because Chaz went his own way and didn’t have his mom poking her nose into his affairs,” the insider explains.
The two are set to reportedly tie the knot in a simple ceremony sans Chaz’s mother’s theatrics, as she’s remained uninvited thus far.
“He doesn’t want Cher popping over or calling all the time, interfering with his finances, giving tough love advice, questioning him about his relationship and doing basically what she did to Elijah.”
“She suffocated Elijah and his [estranged and on-again] wife [Marieangela King] and look where that went – they’re barely speaking.”
Even Cher’s current beau, music producer E.A. Edwards, is complaining the overbearing pop icon “isn’t giving him room to breathe,” a second source previously dished to In Touch.
“She’s cooped up in that mansion of hers in Malibu and keeping to herself after all that drama with Elijah that just got settled, but she’s still testy and tired and demanding as hell, questioning his every move,” the source stated.
Still, the first source says, “In her defense, Cher’s just trying to be a good parent, but Chaz is having none of it.”
“Chaz isn’t heartless. He wants to do the decent thing and said that, yes, Cher will have an invite to the wedding if, and only if, she stops pestering them.”
