Cher Taking ‘Obsession’ With Occult and Macabre ‘To a Dark Place’: ‘Stress’ Making Her ‘Withdraw’

Friends are finding Cher’s headfirst dive into the macabre a very weird coping mechanism that has them likening her to a modern-day Morticia Addams, a source exclusively tells In Touch. 

“It’s no secret she’s an insomniac who’s up to all hours and relies on psychic help to stay in touch with dead relatives, like her mother and Sonny Bono, but she’s taken her obsession to an even darker place,” the source explains.

It’s no secret the Moonstruck star, 78, is drawn to the eerie and the occult and has been a rabid horror fan her entire life, even serving as executive producer on the horror flick Little Bites with her kid, Chaz Bono.

“Cher’s always been drawn to the macabre,” the source says. “She watches old horror films and plays dark classical music that makes everyone’s skin crawl.” 

The source notes, however, her fascination has taken a dark turn away from just interest and toward a more worrying track. 

“She keeps the rooms ultra-dim with the least amount of lighting and the curtains drawn even in daytime,” the insider says. “She avoids direct sunlight and has incense burning all the time to enhance her spiritual senses.” 

The “Goddess of Pop” rose to fame as one half of the folk duo Sonny and Cher, along with her late ex husband Sonny Bono, who she divorced in 1975. Throughout her storied career spanning six decades, the “Believe” singer cultivated a unique personal look immediately identifiable to fans, even sparking a surge of cheek implant surgery requests after appearing in Moonstruck alongside Nicolas Cage. 

The “If I Could Turn Back Time” Grammy winner has even taken to wearing wigs now that she’s dating 38-year-old music producer A.E. Edwards. 

“She freaks out anytime her gray hair starts to show so she never goes more than two weeks without coloring her roots, which is really damaging them,” a different insider previously revealed to Closer. “She used to be much more relaxed about it but she’s paranoid of A.E. seeing any grays on her head and getting turned off.”

Determined to keep her youthful looks – and her youthful boyfriend – Cher has even hopped on the recent celebrity trend of vampire facials, aptly named for a star who is so devoted to her macabre aura, which have been touted by others also chasing the fountain of youth, including Kim Kardashian.

The procedure involves patients having their blood drawn, then “the provider uses a micro-needling device to create multiple micro-punctures — both driving the isolated growth factors into the skin and creating [a] stimulus for tightening and rejuvenation of the collagen of the face,” according to a practicing dermatologist. It may be keeping her skin looking fresh, but the source says all of her bizarre habits are starting to hurt her relationship with her beau.

“Her friends and family know Cher is a believer in vampire facials, which keeps her skin youthful and line-free, but combined with her other kooky rituals it’s a real turnoff, especially to A.E. sadly.”
