Chris Brown: A History Of Violence, a documentary that alleged the disgraced singer has a pattern of abusive behavior and sexual assault, was released in October 2024. The "Kiss Kiss" singer, 35, did not immediately have a public reaction, but on January 22, 2025, his team announced that he would be suing a variety of parties, including Warner Bros. Discovery, for a hefty fee.
Brown is seeking $500 million in damages from Warner Bros., production company Ample Entertainment, and one of the anonymous people who claimed that Brown raped her in the documentary.
BBC reports that per the court filing, Brown's legal team told producers that the accusations against her were "misleading" and "discredited," and that the company's decision to release the documentary showed that they were "prioritizing profits over journalistic integrity". Brown's team is accusing the producers of the documentary of "libel and intentional infliction of emotional distress."
Brown has never been found guilty of any sex-related crimes, though he famously pleaded guilty to assaulting his then-girlfriend, Rihanna, in 2009, and served five years of probation.
If you or someone you know has been sexually assaulted, contact the National Sexual Assault Hotline at 1-800-656-HOPE (4673) or go to https://www.rainn.org/
