Get ready for a busier CinemaCon 2025.
After taking a year off, Sony Pictures Entertainment is returning to present its slate at the annual gathering of theater owners and Hollywood studios. And, in a first, Amazon MGM Studios will take to the stage at the mammoth Colosseum theater at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.
The show is hosted by the National Association of Theatre Owners, the trade org representing thousands of cinema across North America and the world.
NATO president-CEO Michael O’Leary, now in his second year in the job, announced the news Thursday during a breakfast at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles. “We are thrilled and honored to welcome back all of our studio partners, with the addition of Amazon MGM Studios to this coming year’s CinemaCon line-up as a clear sign of support of the theatrical moviegoing business,” he said in a statement.
Sony’s return means the four remaining major legacy studios will be participating — the others being Disney, Paramount Pictures and Universal Pictures/Focus Features — alongside Lionsgate and Amazon Studios MGM, with additional programming to be announced.
CinemaCon 2025 runs March 31-April 3. It was a blow last year for NATO when Sony decided to bow out of presenting and instead use the money it would have spent on the presentation for its consumer marketing campaigns.
“We are grateful for the continued support from the studios, filmmakers and stars, vendors and of course our NATO members, the theater owners,” CinemaCon Managing Director Mitch Neuhauser said.
Added O’Leary. “This powerhouse line-up of the world’s greatest film-making studios speaks directly to the cultural and economic power of the cinema. Our friends in the studios know that movie fans want to see the magic they make on the big screen, and they also know that movies that start their journey in the theater are more successful than those that do not.”
After a tough 2024 at the box office due to the impact of last year’s labor strikes and a lack of product, 2025 is expected to improve matters. Sony’s big titles include summer tentpole Karate Kid: Legends.
Cinemark CEO Sean Gamble, who runs one the three largest circuits in the country, attended Thursday’s breakfast days after it was announced he is receiving top industry honors at CinemaCon, which also holds an awarsds show for filmmakers and talent.
Like Apple Original Studios, Amazon MGM has made a commitment to supporting theatrical by giving select films a traditional theatrical release before sending them to their respective streaming services.
CinemaCon’s trade show partners include the International Cinema Technology Association (ICTA) and the National Association of Concessionaires (NAC).
