CNN is giving primetime anchor Kaitlan Collins an expanded role at the cable news channel.
Collins will become CNN’s chief White House correspondent, a critical role that will see her lead coverage of the incoming Trump administration. The journalist will continue to anchor the 9 p.m. hour on CNN, though she will relocate from New York to Washington D.C.
“Kaitlan Collins is the perfect person to lead coverage of the new Trump White House, even as she continues to anchor her key primetime show The Source,” said CNN chairman and CEO Mark Thompson in a statement. “Kaitlan is a political journalist of real depth and tenacity who already boasts an amazing record of scoops and exclusive interviews. I’m excited to see what new heights she scales as she combines this key new posting with her duties as a major CNN anchor.”
Collins was tapped to lead the 9 p.m. hour as the host of The Source last year, filling a critical gap in the channel’s primetime lineup that was vacant for much of Chris Licht’s tenure at the channel. Her new role is a major promotion, with Collins holding down not only a key primetime hour, but also arguably the most important correspondent role at the channel.
Collins has broken a number of stories about he incoming Trump administration already, including a number of cabinet appointments. She joined CNN in 2017.
