Coleen Rooney was hugged by tearful friends and family as she arrived home in Manchester on Wednesday morning.

The 38-year-old was given a heroes welcome at the terminal after nearly clinching the jungle crown on I'm A Celebrity at the weekend. Coleen came second to McFly's Danny Jones after securing 44.8% of the vote to the singer's 55.2%. Reverend Richard Coles came third in the final.

Despite her 24-hour flight from Brisbane, Coleen appeared bright and cheerful as she was reunited with her nearest and dearest. Her sons Cass, six, and Kit, eight, had joined her in Australia with her parents while her eldest kids - 15-year-old Kai and 11-year-old Klay - and husband Wayne had been supporting her from home.

In a sweet interview after leaving the ITV show, Coleen opened up about what Wayne had said to her. She told hosts Richard Madeley and Susanna Reid : "He just said how much he missed me, how proud he was and that the support back home has been unbelievable. He just can't wait to see me and I can't wait to see him as well."

Last week, viewers watched as Coleen broke down in tears after being reunited with her youngest sons and mum in the jungle. During a surprise visit, Coleen burst into tears when she saw her mum and said: "I don’t want you to leave me now!" However, she wasn't expecting any more visitors and she heard a "boo!" and turned around to see Kit and Cass run to give her a hug.

Kit had one remark when he first hugged his mum, as he said: “She stinks!” and he also had some special news to tell her. Referring to a football match he recently played in, he shared: “I won City!” and she replied: “Brilliant, did you score?” An emotional Kit nodded, and a tearful Coleen reassured him: “I’m crying because I’m happy, because I’ve missed you so much!”

Coleen later admitted that she nearly quit I'm A Celebrity just one week in because she had missed her family too much. Speaking to the Mirror, she says how she sobbed after just a few days after being reminded of Wayne and her sons whose faces were emblazoned on her pillow.

“In that first week, I did wake up one morning and I looked at the pillow and I saw on it obviously Wayne and the kids, and I had a little cry and I thought I don’t know whether I can go all this way,” she says. But she says she “soon snapped out it” by getting stuck into her chores instead - namely the washing up.

“I went off and did the washing up and collected the wood and did whatever I had to do,” she says. “I just got on with it.” She says the first few days were also tough as she worried she wasn’t a big enough personality like some of the other campmates, and too quiet.

“In the first week I just thought I can’t see me going all the way because I was just me,” she says. “We had loads of personalities in there who were great and I got on with, but they were performers and I felt like I was, at times, just sat there thinking, ‘what do I bring?’

“It wasn’t uncomfortable. They made it comfortable. It was just me sitting back and looking at that camp and thinking I was more quieter than everyone else. But obviously people enjoyed it and wanted me to stay in there longer and see a bit more of me. I don’t know why but they did.”
