Coronation Street star Carol Royle's husband of 47 years, Julian Spear, has died.
The 70-year-old actress announced the heartbreaking news on her Facebook. She said: "I am desperately sorry to post that we lost my wonderful husband, Julian Spear, today, 9th December. Perfectly fit man but jumped into a freezing outdoor pool which he assumed was heated as per usual yesterday, and he developed a sudden massive brain haemorrhage – our hearts are aching."
She continued: "Married 47 years – known each other 56. Forgive me if I am not on Facebook very much for a while." Friends and fans took to the comment section to share their condolences to the grieving star. One user said: "Oh Carol, my heart goes out to you with this terrible news. Sending you much love and light and prayers and strength and heartfelt condolences."
Another said: "Love and hugs to you all. My deepest sympathies to yourself Carol and your family. May Julian rest in eternal peace," while one posted: "Oh Carol, I am so very sorry. Sending my love and condolences to you and your family." Carol also posted the news on her husband's Facebook page.
She added in the post: "I shall put details here eventually - the funeral will be after Christmas….." Julian was a musician and the son of an actor, Bernard, who had a role in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Carol and Julian share two children named Taran and Talitha.
Carol is best known for her roles as Jenny Russell in Life Without George and Lady Patricia Brewster in Heartbeat. In 1989, she appeared as Jessica in Blackeyes, written by Dennis Potter. She also had roles in Blake's 7, The Professionals, Bergerac, Hammer House of Mystery and Suspense, Casualty, Doctors and Father Brown.
She recently filmed for Coronation Street as Anthea Deering, Joel Deering's mother.
