Charlie Lawson has opened up about his wild party days, saying he and Katie Price would often be "three sheets to the wind" and "under the influence of anything"
Charlie Lawson has been spilling the beans on his wild nights out with Katie Price, claiming they took "anything that we had got our hands on". The Coronation Street icon opened up about his raucous days while portraying tough guy Jim McDonald in the hit soap.
In his tell-all book, That's Life, So It Is, he speaks of his heavy drinking habits, confessing to knocking back over a bottle of whiskey nightly and dabbling in drugs like cocaine, heroin, ecstasy, LSD, speed, and cannabis.
Chatting about his bond with Katie Price, who has been very open about her issues with drugs, he penned: "I had always got on well with her, although we had more often than not been three sheets to the wind, at 3am, under the influence of anything that we had got our hands on!" He added: "I have always had a soft spot for Pricey. I've always felt that she has been let down by friends and boyfriends alike."
At 65, Charlie reflects on being introduced to "most drugs", favouring cocaine and speed because he "wanted to be bouncing off the walls".
Reflecting on his early acting days, he wrote: "Drugs were everywhere."
He reminisced about his weekends: "Every weekend I'd travel back to London on the last fast service to Euston and end up in some strange venue and party the whole night through with bags of speed and anything else we could get our hands on. Vast amounts of cocaine was available and clearly everyone, including myself, had partaken," reports the Mirror.
Charlie describes his first acid trip as "a particularly brilliant adventure" but a nasty experience "chasing the dragon" put him off for good.
In his memoir, he recalls the wild times with Phil Middlemiss during their days on Corrie, writing: "The cardinal rule was never to be late. Especially if you were party animals like Philip and myself. I was constantly out all night on the lash. Life was a complete joy, as long as I could carry on without a care in the world. Cocaine was everywhere and we took full advantage of its availability."
Later on, he faces his darker times admitting: "My drinking had become very heavy. I never drank during the day but at night I was drinking over a bottle of whiskey. If there was anything else around I would buy it."
The Northern Irish actor, known for his role as Big Jim on Corrie since 1989, candidly shared his turmoil throughout the 1990s, including a turbulent marriage with Leslie Bond that almost pushed him over the edge, and how he prioritised his party lifestyle over his family commitments, particularly with his daughter Laura, now 36.
