Couple Buy Historic Home, Find Museum-Worthy 'Treasure' in the Attic

A couple were blown away when, exploring the attic of their old home, they found a vintage music box.

Courtney and Matthew Weil's California home was originally built in 1893 and the couple have been renovating it over the past two years. One find stood out when they began work on the attic, where they discovered the chest that contained the music box.

"Our initial reaction to finding it was shock," Courtney told Newsweek. "I've never seen or even conceived of a music box that large. The shape of it honestly looks like a coffin so before my husband opened it I was a bit concerned what we might find inside.

"It was a delight for it to be a music box! It's one of the items we've been most excited to find. We are actually having a custom mural painted in the dining room to capture some of the house's 131-year-long history."

The video shows Courtney making her way up to the attic where Matthew is about to open the chest. Once they discover it is a music box, they are overcome with amazement as the "Bridal Chorus," also known as "Here Comes the Bride," plays.

"Another day, another treasure found!" Courtney wrote in the caption of the video, which received 123,000 views on Instagram.

The pair told Newsweek: "We bought our house from a historic preservation nonprofit, and they received it from someone who had passed away and left the house to them in his will. When they sold the house to us they left all of the former owners belongings behind for us. Two years later, we are still uncovering antique mysteries on this house, including hidden compartments and priceless antiques."

The couple's video received a huge reaction when it was posted on Instagram, with people sharing their thoughts on the pair's antique find.

"In a house like this, you would have to tell me to go to bed every night otherwise I would not stop searching through all the antiques. It's my dream," said @tonigirl45.

Meanwhile, @lanielouschlue commented: "Oh my goodness! Slightly creepy but such a cool find!"

"It certainly looks to be in beautiful condition. Congratulations!" said @sara_in_here.

While many were amazed by the music box discovered by the couple, others pointed out how they felt it was a bit creepy.

One person, @eo68, commented: "And now you're haunted."

Another, @nickp.10, shared: "You'll wake up in the middle of the night to the sound of that music box."

"Cool until it starts playing in the middle of the night," said @maxxvestros.
