Just weeks after announcing his divorce, Daddy Yankee has filed a series of legal motions against his soon-to-be ex-wife Mireddys González.
According to court documents reviewed by Billboard, the 47-year-old reggaetón icon made a filing on Friday to seek an injunction against González after alleging that she withdrew $80 million from the bank account of his label, El Cartel Records, where she reportedly served as CEO.
A second motion was filed that same Friday where he claimed González withdrew an additional $20 million from Los Cangris, another music company Yankee owns.
Daddy Yankee, born Ramón Luis Ayala Rodríguez, made his filing in a court in San Juan, Puerto Rico and listed González, her sister Ayeicha González Castellanos, and El Cartel Records.
“It now becomes evident why she has wanted to keep him in the dark and deny him information about the withdrawals and cash movements that she and her sister make behind his back,” read the complaint, per Billboard.
The alleged theft reportedly occurred on Thursday after DY had revoked González’s and González Castellanos’ authority and warned them against making financial transactions on behalf of his companies.
Yankee alleged that the defendants mismanaged El Cartel Records by consolidating unauthorized control over the company, neglecting corporate formalities, and failing to account for their financial decisions.
Another claim involves the sale of his music catalog to Concord, which Yankee says was finalized at an unreasonably low price under González’s direction that turned out to be “far below the real value.”
Billboard reported in October that Concord acquired Yankee’s catalogue for $217 million. The deal included the rights to hits like “Gasolina,” “Con Calma” and his featured artists rights on mega-hit “Despacito.”
“Despite the plaintiff having signed the agreement, under the advice of that third party and the defendants, the plaintiff was not provided with a copy of all the contract documents, and to this day he does not know the real scope of the transaction, nor does he have detailed knowledge of what was or was not sold, nor the limitations he may have on the use of his musical creations,” reads the filing.
Earlier this month, Daddy Yankee announced that he and González called it quits after nearly 30 years of marriage. The former high school sweethearts tied the knot in March 1995 and share two children: daughter Jesaaelys, 28, and son Jeremy, 26. Yankee has another daughter, Yamilet, from a previous relationship.
“This is not an easy time, but I understand it is part of my life’s process,” wrote the 6-time Latin Grammy winner in a statement made on his Instagram Story. “It is my responsibility to accept it and move forward, to protect my stability, my children, and everything we have built over the years.”
