With the much-anticipated “Yellowstone” finale airing on December 15, all eyes are on the future. Cole Hauser, who plays Rip Wheeler on the hit show told People that he will “miss” the ‘unbelievable cast.”
He also hinted that Wheeler’s character may live on after the finale on people’s television screens.
“We will see what happens over the next year or so and we’ll see what’s next. Hopefully, we can continue to get in people’s living rooms and entertain them the way we have over the last seven years,” he told People.
Hauser’s comments came after Deadline reported that a spinoff is in the works starring Hauser as Wheeler and Kelly Reilly as his wife Beth Dutton.
Cole Hauser Says Americans Still ‘Love the Show,’ the Report Says
Hauser stressed that the franchise hasn’t worn out its welcome yet.
“I think America has spoken. They still love the show,” he told People.
“There’s obviously just tons of people that every Sunday get together with their families, and we give them the experience of taking ’em out of their own living rooms and putting ’em in Montana and entertaining them,” he said to People. “And I think ultimately it’s just that simple.”
As for the finale, Christina Alexandra Voros, an executive producer on “Yellowstone,” told Variety, “I think this last batch of episodes leads us to the end of an era. It’s impossible to talk about it in any detail without tipping my hat towards things to come. But I think [co-creator and writer] Taylor [Sheridan] has managed to — and I’m really not sure how he’s done it, I think it’s sort of masterful — bring the ending to something that feels both shocking and fated at the same time.”
Cole Hauser Called the Final ‘Yellowstone’ Season ‘an Unbelievable Experience’
“It’s been an unbelievable experience the last couple of weeks of just seeing people out and about and their acknowledgment of the show and the character and what it’s meant to them,” he told People of fans.
“For me, to be able to do that, to educate people, enlighten and entertain them is always the dream,” Hauser told People.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, fans can also expect two more prequels: “1944” and a second season of “1923” to go with “1883,” which already aired. All of those shows trace the origins of the Dutton family.
