“Daily Show” correspondent Ronny Chieng was shocked by President Joe Biden’s “garbage” comments this week... but for a different reason from everyone else.
“Wait, hang on. Joe Biden is still the president?” Chieng said in mock disbelief on Wednesday.
Biden was asked Tuesday about Tony Hinchcliffe, the comic at a Donald Trump rally who called Puerto Rico a “floating island of garbage.”
“The only garbage I see floating out there is his supporters, his demonization of Latinos is unconscionable and it’s un-American,” Biden said on a Zoom call. He later clarified he was referring to the comic who made the joke, but Trump and his supporters said Biden was trashing everyone on the right.
Chieng tried to the get the context by playing more of Biden’s comments and found a confusing jumble of words.
“Oh, I see,” Chieng said. “This guy is too fucking old, and his brain is a floating pile of garbage, of course.”
But no one on Biden’s team can come out and say it.
“The Dems don’t want to admit that the president of the United States should not be using a computer unsupervised,” he said. So they’re claiming the entire issue is about where to place the apostrophe and that Biden meant “supporter’s” ― referring to Hinchcliffe ― and not “supporters,” referring to all of Trump’s MAGA fans.
“This election is really coming down to Nazis versus grammar Nazis,” Chieng said.
