The new series of Dancing on Ice is officially under-way, but tragedy has struck after a professional skater announced that she's been forced to quit just hours before the live show.
Vanessa Bauer informed her fans that she has pulled out of tonight's live show after sustaining an injury during rehearsals. It came a month after comedian Josh Jones dropped out of the ITV competition due to an injury.
This is not the first time the show has been thrown into chaos. Over the years, Dancing on Ice has experienced several celebrity drop-outs due to horror injuries and coronavirus.
Jason Donovan - 2021
Australian soap star and actor Jason Donovan was forced to quit mid-way through the competition due to injury. He said then: ‘Due to this ongoing back issue which occurred about 10 days ago and at the advice of my medical team... I can’t continue and have to withdraw.'
Michael Barrymore - 2019
My Kind of People frontman Michael made his TV comeback in 2019 when he signed up for Dancing on Ice. However, he had to drop out before the show started due to a broken hand.
He wrote on Instagram at the time: "Took a nasty fall on the ice last Friday during rehearsals and sadly broke my left wrist. Absolutely devastated to hear that I can’t go back on the ice for a while."
Billie Shepherd - 2021
2021 was not a memorable year for Dancing on Ice, as three stars had to quit the series. TOWIE icon Billie was forced to pull out mid-way through the competition after she became concussed during rehearsals.
Rufus Hound - 2021
Before Billie left the show, comedian Rufus Hound dropped out after testing positive for coronavirus. He had been forced to sit out of last week's show due to him being in contact with someone who had the virus.
He said at the time: "Unfortunately, the rules on Dancing on Ice are completely cut and dry, very strict, because they need to keep everybody on that production as safe as possible.
"So it seemed like when I was just quarantining, there might be a window of opportunity for me to be able to get back to the show, a window that I now know doesn't exist."
Hamish Gaman - 2021
Professional ice skater Hamish snapped a tendon in his finger which forced him to leave the show in 2021. At the time he was paired with Faye Brooks and said that he was "truly heartbroken" over the accident.
Stephen Lustig-Webb - 2024
Gogglebox star Stephen was forced to quit the show prematurely after he broke his ankle during training. His nasty injury meant that he had to undergo surgery and he was also ruled out of running the London Marathon that year.
Joe-Warren Plant - 2021
Emmerdale actor Joe, who plays Jacob Gallagher, exited the ice skating programme alongside his pro partner after he tested positive for coronavirus.
Vanessa Bauer said at the time: "Unfortunately, we have received positive test results for Covid which means we cannot continue to compete this year."
Dancing on Ice airs on Sundays on ITV and ITVX.
