Dave Franco finally addresses calls for him to play murder suspect Luigi Mangione

Luigi Mangione has a celebrity doppelganger and that said doppelganger has some thoughts.

Mangione, 26,  who was charged with first-degree murder in the case of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson’s death, yet despite his crime, became an internet sensation last year.

One of the reasons being that he looked eerily similar to Hollywood star, Dave Franco, 39. Now, the actor has finally reacted to calls for him to play Mangione in a film.

Franco starred in what felt like almost every comedy film in the 2010s, but in recent years, he has taken his career from in front of the camera to behind it, working largely as a director.

While he still dabbles in acting, including a new horror titled Together, with his wife, Alison Brie, there is one role he could be open to playing next.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter at the Sundance premiere of the Michael Shanks film, Franco was asked if ‘anyone’ had reached out to him asking him to play Mangioni.

‘Anyone? Do you mean everyone?’ his wife responded when the couple were asked about it.

‘I have never received more texts in my life about anything,’ Franco continued to tell the reporter. ‘Anyone who has my phone number has reached out about it.’

‘But I don’t think there have been any official offers,’ Brie said, with Franco confirming: ‘No, no official offers.’

While internet users are convinced the star is the perfect candidate for the job, it seems there is a problem; the job doesn’t exactly exist yet.

After speaking to the star, the news outlet did some investigating and confirmed: ‘A scripted movie has not yet been announced,’ but noted that ‘several documentary projects about the murder are currently in production, including one from Oscar winner Alex Gibney.’

Fans are still manifesting that a scripted film will eventually come to fruition with many taking to X to share their thoughts.

@Sethspov wrote: ‘Seeing them side by side I can actually see what people were talking about cast him NOW.’

‘Sounds like Dave Franco is definitely the man for the job if everyone’s so excited to see him as Luigi Mangione!’ @KhaanWrites said.

@Angelica_Reed1 added: ‘His eyebrows were born for this job’.

However, not everyone agreed, @rosebud_jurado wrote: ‘Don’t do it, Luigi is no good. You are better than that Franco.’

‘It’s too soon. Y’all need to give it more time to unfold,’ @zillennialelder commented.

‘Typical America—Turning class consciousness into an entertainment experience’, @hermenold said.

Manigoni was charged in December by the Manhattan district attorney with multiple counts of murder, including murder as an act of terrorism.

He pled not guilty, with one of his lawyers telling the judge that government officials, including New York Mayor Eric Adams, had turned the accused into a political pawn.

Agnifilo said Mangione has been robbed of his rights as a defendant, adding that politicians have tainted the jury pool.

Mangione is facing both state and federal charges. The latter could carry the possibility of the death penalty, while the maximum sentence for the state charges is life in jail without parole.
