David Spade is offering a sizable incentive for anyone who can help catch arsonists amid the ongoing wildfires in the Los Angeles area.

The actor and comedian, 60, took to his Instagram Story on Saturday, January 11, to announce he would offer a $5,000 reward to anyone who helps law enforcement catch individuals responsible for setting fires.

In a candid video from his car, Spade recounted his experience: "I'm out in California and people are saying there's guys lighting fires out there, make this s**t worse. They just caught somebody, we're pretty sure that was lighting fires walking along with a blowtorch, and they let them go."

He then continued, offering some incentive for his viewers. "So, if you can find someone lighting a fire, and you catch somebody, and you get the cops to bust them and throw them in jail, I'll give you $5,000 bucks."

Spade's announcement (and the possible incident he's referring to) follows the arrest of a homeless man in Woodland Hills on Thursday, January 8, who was detained by the LAPD for allegedly using a blowtorch to ignite trash and Christmas trees according to the New York Post. There has been suspicion that the man in question could be tied to the Kenneth Fire that started in the area.

Spade's message has been re-shared by other accounts on Instagram, racking up a bunch of comments in support of the Grown Ups star.

"Wow a celebrity not complaining about himself and trying to help. Using his money. I respect that immensely đź‘Ź," one fan said in the comments. Another seemingly agreed, stating, "Joe Dirt for Governor!!!"

While some applauded Spade's call to action, others were critical.

"he wasnt lighting fires and there is zero proof that he did. Stop creating vigilantes Spade [SIC]," said one, while another user pointed out, "this could be dangerous .... you can't assume everyone is normal in the 🧠 ..."

Despite mixed reactions to his reward offer, Spade's call for action comes at a time when many other celebrities are stepping up to help the community during this crisis. Kim Kardashian's SKIMS donated essential items to displaced families, while Beyoncé and Jamie Lee Curtis contributed a generous amount to wildfire relief efforts.
