Dogsitter Hears Strange Noise, Finds Labrador Performing 'Masterpiece'

2 months ago 13

A dog has gone viral for showing off his skills on the piano, while singing along to his own tune.

Black Labrador Ghillie lives in Scotland, and was recently being looked after by dogsitter Kirsty, 41, when he decided to work on his musical talents.

And, as Kirsty told Newsweek, this is a "daily thing" for him—"to sing and play piano."

A video from Kirsty's TikTok account @k1r3ty, shared on October 13, has gone viral as it captured the moment she found Ghillie in another room, banging on the piano and howling along.

Boasting over 340,000 views, the clip begins with Kirsty walking slowly through a corridor as a mournful howling, followed by a dramatic slam on piano keys, can be heard offscreen.

As she gets closer, the howling continues, as does the powerful music—and she then enters the room, where Ghillie can be seen pushing his head on the keys, and when they make a sound, he matches it with his voice.

He's clearly shy however, as when he notices Kirsty in the room, he stops and stares at her, no longer willing to practice his melodies.

TikTok users were in stitches, with one commenter declaring: "I would listen to his rainy day jazz album."

"Can sing and play the piano. I'm impressed," another wrote, as one said Ghillie was "enjoying his own little musical world" and another said he "has the X Factor."

"Well that's a masterpiece," one said. And as one person put it: "Now that's a talent."

Kirsty told Newsweek that performing is, essentially, in Ghillie's blood.

"His father used to do the same, so as a pup he was brought up around the piano and his dad howling to the music," she said, adding that she's in talks with Ghillie's owner to make a Tiktok account dedicated to his musical shenanigans.

Praising the dog, she described him as "such a gentle giant," who "loves his snuggles and chasing a ball, he also loves his sleep and will often take himself off to bed around 9 p.m."

A 2002 study published by the Cambridge University Press in January 2023 found that dogs can become more relaxed when listening to classical music, after 50 shelter dogs were exposed to five types of auditory stimulation, including heavy metal and pop music.

The study, by D L Wells, L Graham and P G Hepper, found that the dogs spent more time resting and being quiet when classical music was played, however heavy metal saw the dogs become far more vocal.
